Primary School
It was great to connect with many of our families at the Parent Teacher Interviews last week. These interviews provide a formal opportunity for teachers, parents and carers to discuss student achievement and learning behaviour, share progress and establish future goals through collaboration. With a focus on continuous improvement, we welcome any feedback parents may have to improve this experience. Please email your suggestions to the Primary School Office via email psreception@moamagrammar.nsw.edu.au.
2024 MAG Mini Olympic Games
The 2024 MAG Primary Mini Olympic Games, held on the afternoon of Friday 9 August, was a vibrant celebration of the Olympic spirit, with 15 countries participating in 8 different rotational sporting events. The day was blessed with beautiful sunshine, setting a perfect backdrop for the festivities.
The opening ceremony was a highlight, paying homage to the iconic ‘Chariots of Fire’ theme and featuring the original Sydney 2000 Olympic torch, which lit the cauldron and officially opened the Games. Primary students were actively involved, proudly dressed in the colours and costumes of their allocated countries, embodying the spirit of unity and global friendship.
Throughout the afternoon, the school’s core values were on full display, with students showing remarkable teamwork, effort, enthusiasm and kindness. One standout student from each class or country was recognised with a special award for demonstrating an exceptional level of 'Olympic Spirit'.
The event concluded with a heartfelt closing ceremony, where special mentions were given to those who played a vital role in the success of the afternoon, in particular the MAG Olympic Committee, led by Ms Williams, Mrs Pedrana and Mr Harris. The day was a resounding success, filled with joy and the true essence of the Olympic spirit, thanks to the incredible efforts of all staff and students.
Scholastic Book Fair
We are very appreciative of the support demonstrated by our community when visiting the Scholastic Book Fair this week. Your total purchases of $4920.00 enabled the school to select a range of products to add to our library collection and the classroom libraries in Year 1 and Year 5. Due to the popularity of many items, additional products needed to be ordered and these will be handed to the students as soon as they are delivered to the school. A big thank you to those Registered Volunteers who took time out of their day to help at the Book Fair. As always, your support is greatly appreciated.
Science Week
The theme for National Science Week in 2024 is ‘Species Survival - More than just Sustainability’. This theme aims to highlight the importance of science and innovation in ensuring the survival of different species in an ever-changing world. The curriculum focus of the theme is on:
- Science as a Human Endeavour
- Chemical Sciences
- Physical Sciences
- Earth and Space Sciences, and
- Biological Sciences.
Along with the Sustainability cross-curriculum priority, it is versatile and accessible to all students. To celebrate Science Week at Moama Anglican Grammar, the Science faculty ran a variety of activities for students to participate in during lunchtimes. These included bubble blowing and Liquid Nitrogen ice cream, which were some of the favourites for our primary school students. In addition, all Kindergarten to Year 2 students visited and joined a Secondary Science class, where they worked with the Secondary students on some basic Science experiments, including making slime and bath bombs. Our students enjoyed Science Week, and we encourage you to keep their curiosity about Science alive by engaging in basic science experiments at home.
On Monday at lunchtime, I went to the Science Bubble activity. You had to blow a big bubble and then you used a straw to blow a smaller bubble inside it. When I blew the smaller bubble inside the big one, it popped on me. I thought that the bubble activity was fun, and I would like to try it again another time.

Year 3 Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden
Whilst there are many exciting opportunities at Moama Anglican Grammar for students, today we would like to put a spotlight on a favourite class for our Year 3 and Year 4 students. In these year levels, students participate in the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program, taught at our school by a Secondary Food Technology teacher, Mrs Annie Pinson.
The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program is specifically designed to introduce pleasurable food education to students during their learning years, to form positive food habits for life. Often, students can be found in the kitchen over the stove or in front of the oven. If not in the kitchen, you will find them enjoying their delicious meals in the dining area or they can be found getting their hands dirty in the vegetable garden.
This week, our Year 3 students had an indoor picnic lunch where they got to taste their deliciously cooked Algerian recipe of homemade sweet potato flatbread and hummus.
Stage 1 Assembly
This week, students in Miss Kew’s class (1A) hosted the Stage 1 Assembly. They shared the hosting duties and spoke incredibly well. A selection of students read their persuasive writing pieces and challenged other students to vote for their favourite Olympic sport based on their arguments. They were all well-written and provided excellent reasoning. Students also showcased their Olympic figurines which were made in Mrs Pedrana’s Art classes and are currently on display in the Year 1 classrooms. Teachers then presented the ‘Stars of the Week’ awards to the worthy recipients.

Book Week
It is that exciting time of year, where we celebrate Book Week! The theme for this year’s Book Week is ‘Reading is Magic’ and is scheduled from Monday 19 August until Friday 23 August. Book Week provides a great opportunity to celebrate Australian literature. As part of the celebrations, students will be able to join in the many activities which will be on offer throughout the week.
Parents and Carers are invited to attend our annual Book Character Parade on Wednesday 21 August at 9.00am on the Primary tennis courts. On this day, students are encouraged to attend school dressed as their favourite book character. Costumes are to be in line with our school policy regarding appropriate dress at school.
