Year Twelve Information Handbook 2024 - Part II

Year Twelve students have recently received their updated information about examinations.   Each student has their own login details and must review this information through SCSA.  Please encourage your Year Twelve to check what they need to do.

VACS

This week marked the beginning of our Values and Christian Service (VACS) program for Term Three. Students in Years Seven, Eight, and Nine kicked off their Sport rotation, while those in Years Ten, Eleven, and Twelve embarked on their Arts & Culture rotation. The enthusiasm was evident, and I found great delight in observing the students immerse themselves in this distinctive type of learning. Unlike usual classroom activities, VACS urges students to practise their values in action.

It was uplifting to witness the students excelling in each activity and lending support to one another. Seeing them rise to the challenges and develop in an environment that promotes personal growth and collaboration was immensely satisfying. I especially appreciate watching different groups of students stepping forward to demonstrate leadership and empathy. This program provides an opportunity for those who may not usually take on leadership roles in academic settings to excel and assist their classmates, fostering a dynamic and inclusive educational experience for all.

The VACS kitchen competition has kicked off, challenging all Houses with a deceptively 'simple' task: making pikelets! Students were judged on texture, taste, and presentation.

Camfield 1, represented by Audrey and Esther, claimed first place.

Camfield 2 (Kimberley and Willow) and Mokare 1 (Hamish and Harley) tied for second. Baudin 1 (Connor and Sarah) took third place.

After the first week, the points stand as follows:

Camfield   9 points

Mokare     4 points

Baudin      3 points

Wilson      0 points

The Sydney Dance Company

The Sydney Dance Company visited and conducted a 90-minute dance workshop for Great Southern Grammar students at school on Tuesday 23 July .

Led by Sydney Dance Company dancers, the workshop provided students with an incredible learning experience to enhance their creative, collaborative, and critical thinking skills through movement exploration. The sessions catered to all skill levels, from complete beginners to intermediate and advanced dancers, offering foundational contemporary dance exploration and advanced technique development.

Participants experienced a contemporary technique warm-up, learned a section of the Sydney Dance Company repertoire, and tackled a composition task from "Momenta." The workshops were tailored to the participants' experience and abilities, promoting creative thinking, improvisation, and inclusivity.
