Grade 1 and 2
Term Three is here and its already been amazing!
Grade One and Two has already been fantastic with a lot happening for our precious young people. We have had two of our gymnastics sessions, launched CBL for the Term and celebrated the Olympics in a very exciting way with the whole of WPPS.
CBL
Our whole school Big Idea is 'Respect' this term and we have already been blown away by the way the Grade One and Two students have demonstrated this and discussed their own definitions of respect. The statements below are just a sample:
"Respect means being kind and listening. Respect other people even if you don't know them. Be helpful, be kind and treat people nicely. Treat someone like they are important."
- Quinn and Henry
"Respect means acknowledging Country and Elders. It also means to be responsible and kind."
-Toby and Charlie
"Respect means taking care of people and plants. It means taking only what you need and giving back what you don't."
-Ally and Maisie
Throughout the term we have already discussed the ways we can respect ourselves, inspired by our Aussie Athletes that have respected themselves, their bodies and found their strengths!
Gymnastics
We have had two fun filled sessions of gymnastics already this term. The students are really enjoying the chance to strengthen and move their bodies in new ways. The foam pit was a fun challenge for many of them. The joy, the exhilaration and also the challenge to make it to the end, was delightful to observe!
We have three more sessions and we can't wait to see how the students build confidence and challenge themselves even further.
Maths
We have all joined in the Olympic spirit and competed in some maths games in the classroom involving measuring and lots of addition and subtraction to tally the scores. It was a wonderful maths session, enjoyed by all.
Writing
We have delved into the world of story writing in Grade One and Two this Term. We have looked carefully at some beautiful mentor texts (high quality picture story books) that have inspired us to think deeply about characters, settings, complications/problems and resolutions. We have loved challenging ourselves to write short stories, longer ones and even just problem and solution stories. Below are just a snapshot, ask your child about their creative writing journey.
Olympics Day
Friday the 2nd of August was our WPPS Olympics day where all of the Tribes gathered and competed for their 'country'. It was so wonderful to not only see all of the students across the school learn new skills, challenge themselves and have fun but also demonstrate our Tribes values throughout the day. The respect and team effort shown by all was fantastic! Well done to the winning Tribes!
