Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden

Students have been making delicious cornish pastries over the last fortnight in kitchen classes. The shortcrust pastry was easy to make by little fingers, by pressing flour, salt, and butter together, then combining the mixture with chilled water. Rolling pins were used to evenly create a circle of dough. The vegetables and meat were diced, then placed in the middle of the dough. Edges of pastry were folded together with a 'pinch and fold' technique to seal the parcels of goodness. Yum!

Ask your child:

-Where do Cornish Pasties originate from?

-What ingredients were used for this recipe?

In garden classes,  students have spent time observing the changes which come with winter. The garden beds had additional soil added by students. Weeding proved to be a super easy job. It’s always wonderful seeing young children discovering little creatures, during our hands on classes. Whilst the sun made its appearance, 3B & 4B students experienced a productive garden class this week. Broad beans were placed in the top vegetable garden, some lemons & limes harvested and we did a gentle prune of the first 3 apple trees. The old rosemary bush finally was pulled out by 4 very determined young students. Well done all!

Please remember that extra volunteers in the garden are always welcome!
