Grade 5 and 6

Welcome back to Term Three

We are half way through the school year and everyone feels very settled and part of this community. We have been so honoured to have had the Courage to Care group come out to talk to us. Their message is simply that ordinarypeople have the power to make a positive difference to the lives of others by being Upstanders and how to do so in a safe way. Taking inspiration from real-life extraordinary acts of courage, the Upstander Programs inspire everyone to make a real difference in their community by standing up and taking action, creating real change. Some of the presenters were either survivors of the Holocaust or family members of those who survived the Holocaust, and their stories were of courage and hope. By creating awareness of the dangers of discrimination and how that comes about through education on identifying stereotypes, it helps us to rethink our prejudice and stop discrimination. The Grade 5 and 6 students were so attentive, respectful and engaged, that the presenters sent a message to Julie Crawford afterwards to compliment them on how wonderful our students were. What an honour! It was also a perfect way to kick off our CBL Big Idea of 'Respect'.

WPPS Olympics Day

Wow! it's hard to believe this was not the real deal! The Opening Ceremony was spectacular with the torch being brought in by a koala on a bike, then the cauldron being lit by our very own school mascot, Bunjil the Eagle, who is the brain child and creation of Tash in Grade 6.

The Grade Six Students led their TRIBE/Country through the events, constantly referring to their timetables, checking the scores and lifting the spirits and the energy of their young TRIBE members.

The closing ceremony involved medal celebrations, flying doves (with encouraging messages) flying, along with the extinguishing of the Olympic flame by Bronte in spectacular style.

Throughout the day both the Grade 5 and 6 students stepped up, helped others, kept their TRIBES united and encouraged everyone to succeed. What a day!
