Children’s Book Week - Reading is Magic
Children’s Book Week runs from 17 August to 23 August. The theme is ‘Reading is Magic’. Students have been investigating the shortlisted books for the Book of the Year Awards.
The students are really looking forward to putting up their votes in a few weeks. We always do this the week before Book Week, so that the students get their votes in before the judges announce their choice of winners. These will be announced at 12:00pm on Friday 16 August via the CBCA website.
If you are interested in learning more about the shortlisted books pop in to the Library to have a look or chat to us about the best in children’s books for 2023-2024.
We are running two parent sessions in Week 3. One will be at the beginning of the day (8:50am) Thursday 1 August and one at the end of the day (2:50pm) Friday 2 August. Come along and see what your children are investigating.
During Book Week at lunchtime we will be doing some activities such as making tiny houses, ferris wheels and magical creatures. There will also be some competitions for students to enter including a crossword; colouring competition and a scavenger hunt.
Book Character Parade
To celebrate Children’s Book Week we are having an out of uniform day on Friday 23 August.
Our annual Book Character Parade will take place at the College assembly on that morning from 9:00am to 9:45am. F-6 students will have an opportunity to walk around the hall to music, showing their costume efforts to other classes in F-6.
All students and staff are asked to come dressed as a book character or something related to our ‘Reading is Magic’ theme. There is no cost involved, just a chance to have fun with stories, books and dress ups.
