Learning Through Play at Preschoo

Preschool Team

Vocabulary

We are excited to share that our youngest learners will be learning to use complex Tier 2 vocabulary. Our focus is to explicitly teach these essential words to enhance their comprehension and build on their vocabulary bank. So far this term, we have focused on the following words; 'feast', 'exhausted' and 'spotless'. Through various engaging activities and follow up tasks, our children have not only learned the meanings of these words but can also confidently use them in sentences. Additionally, the Tier 2  words have been linked to picture books and followed on with an activity. Such books include,  'The Tiger Who Came to Tea' by Judith Kerr and 'Piggybook' by Anthony Browne.  We picked out key messages from each story, particularly comparing the appetite of a tiger to a regular person.

Inspired by the book 'The Tiger Who Came to Tea', we decided to create an invitation to invite the tiger to our own feast. The children were encouraged to design their invitations and were required to include the word 'feast' in their messages. We arranged play food on our plates, and to the children's delight, a tiger visited our preschool expecting a feast.

Our children have been helping their families at home with everyday tasks such as helping to vacuum, hang the washing, empty the dishwasher and help to set up the table for dinner. This was encouraged after reading the Piggybook so our parents are not so exhausted!

Banana Water Project

Our preschoolers will begin selling Banana Water from Week 4. Banana Water will be for sale for $2 for 2 litres and $1 for 1 litre in front of the preschool. The children have made posters and have positioned them around our school. Please support the children by purchasing Banana Water (a fantastic natural fertilizer for your plants) to support our project of updating our bike track.
