F/1/2 CLASSROOM

The F/1/2 class have had a great start to the term.

The term has only just begun and we have already had the opportunity to participate in both a live and a virtual incursion.

Last Friday we had ‘Why Worry Wally’. The students learned about things that can worry us and how we can manage our worries. The students learned about the acronym BEST (Breath, Eat healthy and exercise, Sleep and be still, Tell a trusted person).

Today the class participated in a virtual incursion with Charmaine Ledden-Lewis, who is the illustrator for a variety of Aboriginal books, such as ‘Ask Aunty: Seasons’. She read the story to the students talking about how Indigenous seasons can be different to the four seasons taught in class. She also showed the students her illustration process. The students enjoyed participating in their own illustrations of sunsets, plants, and seasons using her techniques with chalk/soft pastels.

We have started learning about a wide variety of concepts for this term.

In Subject Focus, we are focusing on history this term. We are starting off with a unit called ‘Past, Present and Future’ where the students will learn about describing the sequence of time.

In Maths we have been learning about place value and counting. The students have been reinforcing their ability to compare and order numbers by value, and learning to read and write increasingly large numbers.

In English, we have been focusing on continuing our phonics knowledge. We have started turning our attention to consonant digraphs and trigraphs. We have also been focusing on our comprehension skills when listening to and reading stories. We are aiming to be able to answer questions that are found in the text.

In Writing, we will be focusing on Narratives this term. We will be learning about the sequence of a narrative and how to make a story interesting.

In Religion, we have started our unit on ‘Jesus and the Scriptures’. The students have been brainstorming all of the stories that they can remember about Jesus.
