Principal's Page

Dear Parents and Carers

I sincerely hope you were able to find time to rest and renew over the Easter Triduum. At this time we recall the life, death and resurrection of Jesus and we look to the joy, new life and possibilities faith in the risen Lord brings.

Being an Easter people means that we are hope-filled people. I had the privilege of hearing Timothy Radcliffe OP recently and I just love his intertwining of teaching and hope: “Teaching is a beautiful expression of our hope for the young. Teaching recognises the dignity of the young as truth-seekers [and] embodies our hope for their future. Every school is a sacrament of hope.”

At all times, the purpose of our work at St Joseph’s is to walk alongside and accompany our students and ‘allow hope to flourish’ for each of them. One of the privileges of working here, is having daily opportunities to witness our students playing and learning as well as interacting with their peers and teachers. These are usually joyful and positive experiences, however in the event that the learning may become difficult, an interaction with a peer may be challenging or a game on the playground becomes troublesome, it is important for students to learn that there will always be an Easter Sunday…problems and challenges will be overcome, this is a part of life and we are all better for having the experience of having to bounce back.

2025 School Enrolments

The 2025 enrolment period is well underway. It is always a pleasure to meet with prospective families at our Open Day and school tours as we discuss their reasons for wishing to enrol their child at St Joseph's. A common theme amongst parents is the strong reputation of our school within the wider community. Parents who have a child beginning in Kindergarten next year are asked to ensure they finalise their enrolment application as soon as possible. 2025 enrolment interviews will be held mid Term 2.

School Assemblies in Term 2

A reminder that our school assemblies will be held fortnightly from Term 2. These will be held on Friday afternoons from 2.00pm on even weeks. The dates of these assemblies have been added to our school calendar.

'Whole School to Home' Communication

Effective communication between school and home is crucial and as you would appreciate, there is much to communicate. We are mindful that the communication of pertinent information and school events is done timely and effectively. To improve our 'whole school to home' communication, we will trial a slightly different approach in Term 2.

Our school newsletter will be published fortnightly on Thursdays on even weeks. This newsletter will include an update of our progress towards our Annual Improvement Plan, a summary of the professional learning staff have been involved in over the past fortnight, Religious Education News, celebration of recent events and achievements, upcoming events, community news and all pertinent information. The intention of the newsletter is to be the central place for all school related information.

Compass alerts will be sent to share important information that cannot wait to be included in the next newsletter and to give important reminders of whole school events. Our Facebook and Instagram pages will continue to include events and achievements to be celebrated.

During Term 2, will be seeking feedback from parents to evaluate our 'whole school to home' communication strategy.

How does my child receive a Principal's Award?

Class teachers nominate students for Blue Merit Awards which are presented at the weekly assembly.  When five Blue Merit Awards have been received, students send them to the school office to be recorded and are then eligible for a Principal’s Award. When students attain their 4th Principal Award, they are awarded a Principal’s Medallion at an assembly. End of Term awards can be included as part of the 5 awards.  Please see the "School Handbook" for a full list of eligible awards.
