Learning and Teaching

Staff Professional Learning.

Last week we welcomed back Kate Korber from The Inquiry Project. Kate has been working with St Mary’s staff since the beginning of 2023 to re spark passion for Inquiry, agency and curiosity. As educators, we aim to enhance student engagement while nurturing critical and creative thinking. Kate spent time in our classrooms, planning with teachers and leading our school PLC on Tuesday afternoon. At various times throughout the term parents were invited into the learning spaces to witness and be active partners in their child’s learning. Thank you to those who joined these experiences and visited the classrooms.

Foundation

We have had such a busy term, thank you for all your support in getting our Foundation students settled and in their new routines.

We’ve been consolidating the letters we have learnt this term, exploring decoding words and blending them back together. We are so impressed with their learning!

We had the pleasure of welcoming our Foundation families in to share in our learning of Measurement! It was such a great morning, so many happy, smiling faces and lots of engagement in the different activities. We hope it was a morning enjoyed by everyone!

Year 3

Last Friday, the Year 3 students welcomed families into their classrooms to showcase their exciting journey of inquiry-based learning. Throughout Term 1, our focus has revolved around the question: "How can I be my best self?" Families were invited to explore their children's projects, centered on fostering healthy minds, bodies, and eating habits.

These projects were part of the Inquiry cycle, where students embarked on the stages of "going further" and "making connections". Students eagerly explored various learning tasks designed to deepen their understanding and establish personal connections to the subject matter. We enjoyed seeing so many families celebrate our learning with us.
