YEAR 7 CELEBRATION AFTERNOON
Our Year 7 students have been working hard to develop their understanding of the key concept ‘Identity’ through inquiries in both Language & Literature and Health & PE. Their learning journey, including Term 1 Highlights, was share at our Celebration Afternoon. A big thank you to our newly appointed Year 7 Ambassadors, who presented to parents on behalf of their peers.
Jenson
"Hi, my name is Jenson and I am one of the six student ambassadors of Year 7 2024.
I would like to introduce you to all our other ambassadors: Kayla, Mikayla, Matteo Sunny and Jasmine.
As student ambassadors, we represent our school in various ways such as presenting at school assemblies, assisting with school tours and listening and caring for our peers. We are still learning about our other responsibilities such as working with the senior leaders.
I got my role by filling out a leadership form, answering questions about why I wanted to be a leader, what I want to do for the school and what experience and skills I have to be a leader. After I handed in the form, I spoke with three teachers who interviewed me. I am very proud to be one the Year 7 ambassadors and I'm looking forward to the rest of 2024."
Kayla
"Hello I'm Kayla and I am one of the sport ambassadors for Year 7. In my role, I support, encourage and help out with activities like the swimming and sports carnivals. I also present information at assemblies.
Recently the whole school had the MESC swimming carnival. There were over 20 events, including butterfly, freestyle, breaststroke and backstroke. I loved this and from there I was able to qualify and go to district swimming for both the butterfly and backstroke.
The MESC athletics carnival is coming up in two weeks and this will be another great event for our entire College to participate in.
Interschool sports is another way students at MESC are able to participate competitively in sports they love. It is a day where our school competes against other schools in the area either on site here at MESC or at competing schools. Recently, I competed in volleyball at Mornington Secondary College. It was a great opportunity and experience to have and to also work on teamwork and sportsmanship. I know everyone that went had a great time.
The school Production is another way students can become involved at MESC. Seussical JR the musical is this year's production, with many of the Year 7 students involved. We are all really looking forward to this and hope that you can all come along to watch."
Mikalya
"Hello I’m Mikayla and I’m going to tell you about my journey into high school. I was the only one that came from my primary school so it was quite nerve-wracking.
In the first few days I started to make some really good friends. Going on camp allowed me to meet different people, make new connections and feel closer to my new friends.
In class our teachers played ‘get to know you’ games which helped to learn names of other students.
Locks were tricky and I got my dad to help me learn how to use the combination lock at home. Mr Green also helped our class figure our how the locks worked.
The locker bays are hectic, but people are confident using their lockers now.
It was pretty easy to find our way around the school. Maths and Science are normally upstairs. Language and literature is downstairs. If we didn’t know where to go, we would ask a classmate.
Year 7 is pretty easy. I’ve got the hang of it and I feel good about being at school."
Matteo
"In week 5, Year 7’s adventured to the Summit Camp with the purpose of getting to know each other. For me, camp was a really fun experience as I got to do many activities with new people. It was good how they sorted the activity groups with some of your friends and some people you had never met, and it is a fantastic opportunity to make friends. The night groups worked a little differently though, as you were in your class groups for the activities after dinner. This helped to strengthen our connection to our class. I saw lots of risk-takers, especially in the activities where you were up high. So many people conquered their fear or heights! My favourite activity was the Snowy River Challenge which involved helping your teammates through, over and past obstacles. There was a slim log straight over a pool of water, which surprisingly everyone crossed safely and a tall blue wall which required teammates to hoist each other over and down safely to the other side."
Sunny
"Camp was amazing! the activity's that I had the opportunity to participate in were so much fun. In particular, The Summit window, it was breath taking. The climb up there on the other hand was terrifying, the ladders were extremely scary. But once I was up there it was worth it. You could see for miles in any direction. I even had the courage to take both hands off the railing."
YEAR 9 OUTDOOR ED EXCURSION
We went surfing with Salty Surf School, at Shoreham with many great waves and sunny days. We also did some bushwalking at Cape Schanck Light house, and some amazing meals made on tangiers.
