PRINCIPALS REPORT

What a jam packed 8 weeks of learning, fun, building positive relationships and community involvement in this terrific school!

It as been a joy to watch our year 7 students quickly become active participants in our college community. They have made new friends and enjoyed the variety of learning that secondary education offers. We have mentioned this a couple of times, but they have been a cohort that has come in as risk takers, open-minded and reflective- a testament to families and primary schools for developing such confident humans.

While we have experienced some challenging behaviours from a few students, I am always grateful to ALL my staff and community for your ongoing support and compassion in this space. We pride ourselves on working restoratively with students while maintaining high expectations and when necessary, consequence processes. More than this I value the partnerships we have with families and the learning that young people experience when student, family and the school work together.

Moving into term 2 I would like to ask that all students and families revisit college expectations around readiness to learn, and ensure students are equipped with learning materials, winter uniforms and organise any support required from the college to encourage a positive experience while students are at school. Please reach out to Year Level Coordinators if you need assistance with this.

Year 7: Rachael Schembri

Year 8: Dylan Johnson-Turner

Year 9: Kirra Lawson

Year 10: Juile Filardo

Year 11: Katie Montinaro

Year 12: Aaron Prior

Term 1 is always a MASSIVE term for sporting events, at a college level and inter school. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our HPE team for all the work they do, above and beyond, to allow our students to have a rich experience in HPE, and to represent the school in a variety of sports. Congratulations to our leaders in this Domain; Luke Churcher, Marcus Roberts and Lachlan Williams.

Last week we had our first 2024 College Council meeting with our new group. College Council is an integral body of our college. Any community member is welcome to approach these representatives, should they wish something to be added to the agenda at a meeting. I would like to congratulate Stephen Baker for resuming as College President. New to Vice President and the council is Kristian Gleeson, retuning to College Treasurer is Tony Walker. The rest of council comprises of Hannah Swaffield, Kaitlin Howell, Katanya Barlow, Nigel Church, Kate Eadie, Ella Linton-Smith and Emma Schafer. Student representatives are Flynn, Katie and Ella. Staff representatives are Marcia Claringbold, Lynn Swannell and Cassie Willis.

In the last week of term, we continue to be actively recruiting maths teachers. You may have heard in the media this week, the challenges that the state are facing with Maths teachers in particular. Communication of an update to affected families will be sent early term 2, outlining actions and plans we have for students and their classes.

Have an amazing term break, be safe if you are travelling and we look forward to another BUSY term 2!
