Faith and Mission

Easter Reflection

During the sacred observance of Holy Week, the Church remembers the journey of Jesus Christ leading up to his crucifixion and resurrection. It is a profound, spiritually significant time in the Catholic Church and each year, the College celebrates some aspect of the Easter season with an Easter Liturgy to conclude Term One.

We thank the following students for participating and portraying The Road to Emmaus in this year’s Liturgy: Our Liturgy Leaders Taya, Danella and Manmeet, along with Mikayla, Alison, Eva, Agatha, Fiona, Yvonne and supporting Year 12 students.

In the midst of our solemn reflections, we find joy in the promise of renewal and hope that Easter brings. It is a time to come together with loved ones, whether in person or virtually, to share in the message of love and salvation that Christ embodies.

Despite the challenges we may face, the spirit of Easter reminds us of the enduring power of faith and resilience. May this Easter holiday period be a time of deep reflection, gratitude and spiritual growth for you and for many around the world.

As we navigate through this School holiday period, let us embrace the teachings of Jesus and strive to spread kindness, compassion and joy to those around us. May this Holy Week be a time of spiritual enrichment and celebration for you all as we honour the profound significance of Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection.

Catholic Education Week

Catholic Education Week was celebrated from Sunday 10th to Sunday 17th March with this year’s theme being In the Light of Christ. In a long standing tradition, our Liturgy Leaders Manmeet and Danella and SRC Leaders Cecilia (Yr 7), Elly (Yr 8), Alexia (Yr 8), Zaina (Yr 10) and Silvana (Yr 11) proudly represented Marian College in attending the Mass for St Patrick. Archbishop Peter Comensoli celebrated the Mass in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Melbourne. Our student leaders joined the students and staff from St Paul’s Primary Schools and after Mass, we all walked to the Fitzroy Gardens for a picnic in the sunshine. We were very proud of our leaders, as they joined over 3000 students and staff representatives from a range of Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in the Melbourne Archdiocese. #CatholicEducationWeek2024

What have our Social Justice Groups been up to?

Marian Young Vinnies

On Thursday the 21st of March, Co-Presidents Leah Pikoulas (Yr 8) and Georgia Versteeg (Yr 11) and members of the Young Vinnies student social justice group came together in a display of remarkable kindness and unwavering strength. Empowered by a spirit of solidarity and teamwork, these compassionate individuals organised an awareness-raising and fundraising event to support those less fortunate than themselves.

Drawing inspiration from the admirable work of the St Vincent de Paul volunteers here in the Western Suburbs, the Young Vinnies decided to replicate the work of those running soup vans for the homeless, by making and selling soup to our students and staff during lunch time.

With passion and determination, they orchestrated this event with the help of our Educating for Justice Leader Ms Nhu Tran, and our brilliant Food and Tech staff member Mr Jamie Haste and Catering Events and Cookery Teacher Mr Cam Woolcock.

Not only did this event open hearts but it also gave our students an opportunity to help financially, showing a true testament to their collective goal of making a tangible difference in the community in our Sunshine West area. Through their actions and tireless commitment, our Young Vinnies members showcased the power of unity and empathy in action.

The event was a beautiful tapestry of compassion, courage and perseverance, woven together by individuals bonded by a shared vision of a better, more inclusive world. Their actions spoke volumes about the strength found in collaboration and the profound impact that a group of determined hearts can have on those in need.

We thank all students and staff involved for enacting our Gospel values and enabling so many to stand in solidarity with you for a worthy cause.

Marian Justice Democracy Forum (JDF)

On xxx it was once again an honour to have Sarah Connolly MP, the State Member for Laverton visit the College to speak with our JDF members on International Women's Day. Sarah engaged with our senior leaders, exchanging ideas and insights on the significant issues relating to women in today’s society. This experience gave our students an opportunity to think beyond their schooling at Marian, to their future once they leave school later in the year.

Marian Leos Club

The Marian LEOs Club held their first sausage sizzle for 2024 on Thursday the 29th of February at lunch time. Their aim was to raise awareness and fundraise for the Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre

The Safe Steps Family Violence Response organisation assists women and children who experience  family violence of any kind.  They offer financial and material aid as well as support to those who have a disability through their Disability Violence Crisis Response Initiative.

It was hoped that this event would spread awareness of the work offered by Safe Steps Family Response for those who are faced with family violence, which is one of the many forms of violence individuals face in their daily life.

The Marian LEO Club members hope that individuals who need support, have the courage to reach out to a teacher they feel comfortable talking with, Ms Williams or Ms Stafford, or contact the Safe Steps Family Violence Response Centre.
