In speaking and listening, students will be involved in oral presentations during Show and Share sessions to the whole class. They will be encouraged to communicate clearly, listen to others when taking part in conversations and take turns when responding in pairs, groups or class discussions. As part of our inquiry on animals the students will be incorporating and sharing their knowledge of animals and present their animal habitat with the whole class. Students will ask questions and provide feedback to each other.

In writing, we will be concentrating on punctuation such as full stops and capital letters and placing them correctly in a sentence. Students will continue to be involved in formal handwriting sessions to practise and consolidate correct formation of letters when writing, placing letters correctly on the dotted thirds and leaving spaces between words. Our writing genres will include recounts and information reports.

In reading, students will be involved in Guided Reading sessions where they will be given explicit instruction and support to further develop and consolidate strategies to assist them in decoding and comprehension. We will be looking at nonfiction books and understanding their features. Students will be developing skills to use factual texts to find relevant information on topics. Your child will benefit from reading their take home book daily. It is powerful for your child’s reading development if you also read to them regularly.
