Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

School Spirit

It is with great delight that I share the positive and energised feel that we are currently experiencing across the school. Our students have settled into routines and structures for Term Four seamlessly and staff have maximised preparation, support, teaching time, and ultimately 'setting the scene for success' from day one of this term. We have lots to look forward to throughout the term and so much to achieve to complete the year. We look forward to your involvement in any way possible as we navigate our way through the last term of 2024.

Canberra Campers

Our campers arrived safely late on Monday afternoon and explored their accommodation after a hearty meal.

Yesterday they visited Government House, Parliament House and the War Memorial.

The sun is shining for them, and the food is delicious - all campers, both students and teachers, were feeling very positive after a busy day yesterday.

Families will be notified on Friday as to the arrival time of the bus on Friday afternoon.

Korean Visitors

Speaking of camps, we have been offered an opportunity to host a group of Korean students visiting Australia early in Term One of 2024.

The students age between Year 4 and Year 6 and a total of 24 are looking to be placed with Families from our school. The students will need to stay in pairs and will spend time at our school throughout the week.

On receipt of this request from Korea, I am seeking expressions of interest from families who would be willing to host two Korean students for a week, (Sunday to Sunday).

If you would be willing to host two students in your home for the week, please advise me via email (miners.rest.ps@education.vic.gov.au) no later than Monday October 16 at 4:00 pm. Thank you.

Swimming

Our Foundation to Year 2 children enjoyed a very successful experience at swimming at week. Thank you to our families for naming belongings.

Year 3/4 students will commence their swimming program this Friday - we look forward to experiencing these important water education sessions at the Aquatic Centre.

2024 Classes

Considerations for 2024 classes is underway. If you wish to share information about your child that will support successful placement in a class for 2024, please make an appointment with me, via the school email address. Requests for an appointment to discuss 2024 class placement must be received no later than Monday October 30.

Introducing Becca

Has your child attended the First Aid Room this term? Is so, they may have shared with you that they were treated by a new person. We would like to welcome Becca Millward to the Administration Team at our school. Becca has already formed great relationships with many of our students through her primary role, attending to First Aid needs.

Security

We are currently experiencing an increase in breaches of security and vandalism on our school site. As a result of this, we have taken measures to secure the school as much as possible out of hours. As much as we want our grounds to be accessible and enjoyed by our school community, we are also trying to protect our grounds from unfavourable behaviours and actions. With increased surveillance and presence of security, we are hoping that we will soon be able to return to flexible access for our community. We thank you for your patience with this matter.

Enjoy the sunshine,
