Grade 3 Camp at The Briars
Last week the Grade 3 students enjoyed their first school camp at The Briars. Despite some wild and woolly weather, the children had a terrific time facing physical challenges, making new friends and (eventually) showing independence by falling asleep in their cabins! This week we reflected on our experiences by writing short personal responses, descriptive writing and persuasive paragraphs related to our camp experiences. We loved writing about camp!
Personal Responses & Our Derinya Values
At camp I displayed the value of humour when I made someone laugh when they were nervous about camp. I made them smile so they would feel confident. I saw Memphis show the value of friendship when she shared her book with other people.

At camp I displayed the value of friendship when my friend was scared of the big swing. I encouraged him to go on it. I saw Logan show the value of respect in crate stack when everyone was treating the crates roughly, he treated them with care.

Persuasive Paragraphs
Briar's Camp is the best outdoor camp ever it's so cool to go on walks there and you'd never get tired because it's so peaceful! The reason why it is so peaceful is because it's surrounded by trees and farmland. For example, you'd be so relaxed there you wouldn't even realise. If you wanted to go to camp, go for magical fun and relaxing BRIAR'S CAMP!

Briar's Camp is without a doubt one of the best camps I've ever been to, and an outstanding highlight is the exhilarating Giant Swing and the thrilling Flying Fox. These activities will help you learn different things and will help you face your fears. For example, you might be extremely scared of heights but go on the giant swing you'll be so proud of yourself. I promise! So, if you want a fantastic camp and the time of your life go to the Briars where your adventures begin!

Briar's Camp is without a doubt the best camp in Mount Martha (the best by far). A thrilling highlight was the delicious food and the mouthwatering desert. This amazing food included toast, cereal, chicken schnitzel, ice-cream and jelly (sounds great, doesn't it?! For example, you get to sit with your friends, and you can chat after you've finished your food. So, if you want to have an amazing time at Briar's Camp then I suggest you try all the food!

Descriptive Writing
As I was waiting in line my heart was wild. I had butterflies in my stomach because I knew soon, I would be in the sky. Before I knew it, I heard, "Three, two, one..." I dropped! I could not feel my feet and I felt anxious! My hands clenched the rope! After a few swings the feeling changed, and I felt relaxed. My head and my body flew through the air.

It's so cold, every part of my body is freezing. "Three, two, one!" VOOP! I am off the clip. I feel scared. So scared that my mouth is numb. When I stop falling, I still feel cold but in a good way, like going to the beach and having a cool breeze blow past. As I swing through the air, I feel calm like a floating cloud.

"ZZZZ!" That was the sound we heard in the middle of the night at Briars Camp. There was a crack of silence for about 32 seconds then... we all cracked up! About one hour later I nearly burst because I was busting! As I crept down the bunk bed ladder, I saw the lights flicker. To my horror, when I reached the bathroom, the tap was running! As soon as I crept back into the cabin, I heard the biggest "ZZZZZ!" This time I cracked up even louder but with relief. It was wonderful to be back and snug in the cabin.
