Foundation Unit

Our Teddy Bears Picnic was a great success! Students loved having their teddies at school with them for the day. The teddies were an integral part of play during inside recess that day with plenty of cuddles and houses being built for the teddies to live in!

We started by sharing our teddies out evenly across two mats. Then sharing out plates. Then the fun started!

We each got a packet of tiny teddies. First we counted the teddies (and might have eaten a sneaky one if we had odd numbers), then shared the teddies out evenly between 2, 3 and 4 plates (circles).

We have continued practising sharing by using counters and blocks. We always make sure we talk about how many counters we have, what we are sharing between and how many are left.

Great ways you can practise sharing at home include:

  • Asking your child to set the table, sharing out plates and cutlery
  • Sharing food out equally for family members
  • Collecting favourite books and then sharing them out equally over 5 nights
  • Sharing out Lego pieces equally between boxes
  • Sharing Hot Wheels Cars equally between groups

Always emphasise the “one for you, one for me” strategy so children are physically sharing each individual object out!
