Middle Unit -2/3

YEAR 3 VISIT TO CARLSRUHE

Last week the Year 3 students had an orientation day at the Carlsruhe campus. There was lots of excitement meeting, patting and cuddling the animals, including the guinea pigs and sheep! We had fun collaborating with the Grade 4’s using the computers to create a narrative as well as exploring and mapping out the campus, identifying key features around the grounds. Students had a really great taste of what learning will be like in the Year 4 classrooms in 2024.

LITERACY

In Literacy, students have moved onto developing settings for their characters to live in for their narrative stories. They drew the setting and wrote detailed descriptions. Some students then used the description to support them in coding their setting through Minecraft Education or Scratch Jr. They have also started brainstorming possible story ideas and selected a favourite idea which will form the basis of their narrative.

NUMERACY

The Middle Unit has continued on with deepening their understanding of time. Through games and hands-on activities, they have explored how to read the time to the quarter hour, 5 minute intervals and the nearest minute, and used problem solving to find out how much time has elapsed. Students have also started to convert analogue time to digital time.

INQUIRY

In Inquiry, students have continued to explore coding and developed their understanding of algorithms, bugs and debugging. They have used different resources such as BeeBots and Minecraft Education and Scratch Jr to find out how digital technology works through digital codes. Some grades have also completed games on the “Hour of Code” website.
