Out with the old and in with the summer veggies
If your kids have lugged home kale, leeks or spinach in the last 2 weeks, it’s because they’ve been to Garden Club. We’ve been clearing out these winter veg to make space for the summer goodies. This week we planted bean, pea and carrot seeds, repurposed an old fence into a bean trellis and installed some of the new irrigation system.
Before sprinkling the carrot seeds on the cleared garden bed, we learnt about them – how they grow from the flowers and close up each 3mm long seed looks like a “tiny dinosaur” or “baby spider with 100 legs” or “little spiky insect”. Aussie Bird Count 16 -22 Oct
Become a citizen scientist by joining the Aussie Bird Count. Simply download the Birdlife Australia – Aussie Bird Count app to your phone or log into the website for bird identification resources and to log your sightings. It only takes 20 mins and is an interesting activity to do with your kids while sitting in your back yard or on a trip to the local park or bush.
