Semantics or the rules that relate to the meaning of language is one of the 5 domains of language and has a significant role in our reading comprehension. 

 

To assist students learning to use semantics in their writing we often use Colourful Semantics cue cards to teach students the parts that make up sentence structure. 

 

Colourful Semantics is a system for colour coding parts in sentences according to the role of different words. It can help children to break down sentences and understand the individual meaning of each word and its role in the sentence.
