Attendance
We are thrilled to share some fantastic news about our school’s attendance! Our whole school average attendance for the term so far sits at 93.22%, showing great commitment from our students and families.
After a small dip in Week 6, our Week 7 attendance bounced back strongly to 92.82%, marking a +3.2% increase across the whole school.
A huge congratulations to 6SH for achieving a perfect 100% attendance last week! 👏 Special mention also to 6RM and 6SH, whose outstanding attendance was helped by their camp and the public holiday.
We also want to celebrate the amazing growth in the following classes:
🏆 2LP – +12.21% increase in Week 7!
🎉 6SH – +10.59% (and 100% attendance!)
✅ 6RM – +6.11%
📈 5EM – +4.72%
🌟 3JS – +3.57%
Attendance plays a huge role in student learning and success. Thank you to all our families for your continued support in ensuring children arrive at school on time and ready to learn each day. Let’s keep up the great effort in the coming weeks! 🚀
Why Attendance Matters
✅ Every school day counts!
Regular attendance helps students stay connected, build friendships, and keep up with learning. Thank you, families, for supporting your child’s routine and engagement at school.
Let’s keep building positive attendance habits together! 🎉
If you have any questions or need support, feel free to speak to your classroom teacher, Mrs. Antonowicz, Mrs. McSweeney or Mr. Podosky.
If you know that your child won’t be attending school, please contact the office and let them know that your child will be away!
PBIS
Each week we have a routine or a blitz that we are focusing on. This week’s is about how to use our Mini Whiteboards.
Supporting Positive Behaviour at St. Kilian’s
At St. Kilian’s, we are committed to creating a safe and respectful learning environment for all students. To support this, we have clear expectations around attention signals, hands-on behaviour, and problem-solving.
Mini Whiteboard Routine: Supporting Learning at Home
At school, students use mini-whiteboards as an essential tool for active learning. Our structured routine ensures that whiteboards are used efficiently, allowing teachers to assess understanding at a glance while keeping lessons running smoothly.
How It Works
🔹 ‘Park it’ – The whiteboard sits in front of the student with the marker and eraser on top.
🔹 ‘Ready in 1, 2, 3… Chin it!’ – Students hold their whiteboards up to their chins, ready to share their answers.
🔹 ‘Clean boards in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1’ – Students quickly erase their boards, ready for the next question.
How Parents Can Support This at Home
You can reinforce this routine at home by using mini-whiteboards (or even a notebook) for:
✅ Spelling & Sight Words – Write words and have your child spell them before erasing. ✅ Maths Practice – Solve quick mental maths problems and show answers in ‘Chin it’ style.
✅ Creative Writing & Drawing – Set a timer and have your child sketch or write a quick response before sharing.
✅ Daily Reflections – Ask your child to jot down something they learned or enjoyed about their day.
Using this simple, structured routine at home can support your child’s confidence and engagement in learning, making it a fun and interactive experience!
Problem-Solving – Getting Help from an Adult
When problems arise, we encourage students to use their words and seek help from a teacher or staff member if they cannot solve the issue on their own. This might be if someone isn’t following the rules, if they feel unsafe, or if they need help working through a disagreement. Teachers are always available to listen, guide students through a solution, and ensure fairness.
💡 How Families Can Support at Home:
- Model problem-solving language – Phrases like “Can we find a way to share?” or “Let’s take turns” help students learn effective communication.
- Encourage independence – Before stepping in, ask “How do you think you could solve this?” to help them develop their own strategies.
- Remind students that teachers are here to help – Let them know it’s always okay to ask a teacher for help when needed.
By working together, we can continue to make St. Kilian’s a safe, respectful, and supportive place for everyone. Thank you for your partnership in reinforcing these expectations at home!
