Eclipse House News

Staff Report
Eclipse has undergone a lot of changes since last year. Not just new equipment but having the Year Nines join us has been wonderful. In the beginning, there was a lot of uncertainty from the older boys, but the house has come together as one big family and has an amazing environment. The older boys seem to mentor the younger boys and the ethos in the house is one of respect and camaraderie.
My role this term has changed somewhat. I currently work every morning and a split shift on a Tuesday and Wednesday evening. This means I can take on more of a “House Mum” role, and this enables me to have a good understanding of each child in the house and what is currently going on in their lives. This gives great continuity for the boys.
Adjusting to being away from home is a lot for some, especially the younger boys learning to do washing, cleaning up after themselves, organisation, school and the multitude of sports activities. The boys are generally all up and about in the mornings by 7.30am and over to the Dining Hall for breakfast. Cricket, football, pool and table tennis are favourites before coming in and getting rooms tidy and dressed for the day. Leave entered, any medications dispensed and house messages before leaving with a cheery “goodbye Sally” as they head out the door for day school.
In the afternoons the boys return from school, and straight to the kitchen for afternoon tea. This is always a lovely time of day, checking in on what they have been up to as they devour afternoon tea before heading out the door to various activities – gym, plaza, work commitments, sports training, etc or a gym session out the back on the new weights set.
No Xbox use during the week in Eclipse, and the TV very rarely goes on until after prep. The boys are an active bunch and certainly keep Supervisors on their toes! It is a very rewarding role, and one that I am lucky to have. Each and every boy in Eclipse has something special to bring to the house and I hope I get the opportunity to see them blossom into fine young men.
