Amazing 5/6

Term 1 - Week 8
A Message from the teachers
It has been a hectic and busy first term and we still have some huge events coming up. The Year 5’s have done a fantastic job applying themselves to their NAPLAN testing, showing exceptional focus and responsibility and really giving themselves the best chance to show what they know. The teachers want to thank them all for their hard work. At the same time, our Year 6’s have created some incredibly detailed and creative plans for how they would design some of the gardens and pathways around the school, how they would persuade Mr Danson and local businesses to support them and how they could make these gardens sustainable and water resistant for the future when they leave. It has been a positive and productive 2 weeks and they should all be proud of what they have achieved.
Today, we have been off representing our school in the Lightning Premiership for Summer Sports. Another big thank you to the students for their fantastic sportsmanship and camaraderie this term, with many playing sports they have never played before. It has been awesome watching them learn new skills and develop existing ones and I know that today’s competition will be a truly positive celebration of our hard work this term.
We have a number of big projects coming up to finish this term. In literacy we are turning out focus to Australian Politics and will be hosting a Mock Parliament, where kids will get the chance to present ‘Laws’ and ideas around specific areas to make Australia better. There will then be a system of voting and debate. It is a real highlight of our persuasive unit this term and the students are looking forward to it. In Maths for the next 2 weeks, the Year 5’s and 6’s will be examining how to perform the 4 basic operations to decimal numbers and converting these into fractions.
As the term winds down and kids get tired, please feel free to contact your student’s classroom teacher or Mr Duckett with any concerns about how your student is going.
