Fantastic 3/4

Term 1 Week 8 2025

What have we been up to?

It’s hard to believe how quickly this Term is whipping by, but the students are doing an amazing job; remaining focussed and putting first things first. With swimming having wrapped up for 2025, it has been great to see students returning to the regular routine and adjusting so seamlessly back into the well understood expectations.

In Reading, students have continued working through Matilda and been developing an understanding of different vocabulary found in the text. Using this vocabulary, students have been looking into the author’s intention and the reason behind choosing to describe characters in specific ways. Additionally, students have been exploring how Matilda uses narrative structures within each chapter and follows a predictable order of events including orientation, build up, complication, solution and resolution.

In Writing, students have been busily building their knowledge of sentence structure and how sentences can be expanded through the use of different sentence building tools. Through their learning into subordinating conjunctions, students have been investigating how these can be applied to different clauses and the effect these conjunctions have on a sentence. Students have also been developing their persuasive writing skills and using the OREO tool to structure their arguments in a logical and convincing way.

In Maths, students have been working with their respective year levels to investigate addition and subtraction as well shape and geometry. Through their learning of addition and subtraction the Year 4 students have been developing a deep understanding of why vertical addition/subtraction and other algorithms work when finding the sum and outcome of different numbers. The Year 3 students have been investigating the features of 3 dimensional objects and how these shapes can be classified.

In Inquiry, students have been continuing to explore the role of Government in Australia; in particular the role that democracy plays in their daily lives. The Unit of Learning culminated in a poster and a PowerPoint presentation about what democracy means to them.

We would also like to extend a congratulations to all those students who participated in the NAPLAN assessment and also to those other students who made the sitting of the NAPLAN such a positive experience by remaining respectful and quiet while students sat the assessment.
