Terrific 2

Term 1 Week 8 2025 - Friday 21st March
What have we been up to?
Can you believe there’s only 3 weeks left of Term 1?! All of the students have been working with such positive attitudes, Well done! The last couple of weeks have seen a return to our traditional learning program with students doing a great job re adjusting and focusing on their learning.
In Literacy
We’ve been continuing to focus on phonics, handwriting, fluency reading and our author study of Nick Bland. We have now explored, discussed and completed learning activities for several books across the Bear series of books. Students have been busy completing practice plans for narrative writing in preparation to write their own stories. We are looking forward to seeing what they can produce! Students have been very proactive in their literacy learning.
Home Readers
Please remember that READERS ARE CHANGED EVERY MONDAY. Students will take 2 books each Monday, where they can alternate throughout the week. Please remember, students need to read these everyday as they are all in grade 2 now.
Readers will only be changed on a Monday. This may be repetitive for your child however that is the purpose. We are focusing on fluency and confidence.
In Maths,
In maths, we have had a change of topic in the last two weeks. Now the grade 2’s are developing their understanding and consolidating foundational skills in the area of Shape. We have been working with and discussing the various shapes and objects for both two- and three-dimensional shapes/objects. Learning all about their attributes and differences. There has been some fantastic discussions amongst the students which has been very pleasing.
Students have shown a keen interest in this area which has been fabulous to see. We will continue to work on this topic until the end of week 9.
Leader in Me and Respectful Relationships: Over the past two weeks, students have continued on their Leader in Me journey by focusing on Habit 3: Keep the end in mind. They learned the importance and value of prioritising and putting first things first. Alongside this, we are continuing to run Respectful Relationships lessons, which help students to recognise and identify their own and others emotions.
ScienceWe have continued our Science focus for this term, Chemical Sciences. During this topic students will be learning all about how objects are made of different materials that have observable properties and how everyday materials can be physically changed or combined with other materials in a variety of ways for particular purposes.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress.
