Wonderful 1

The 0ne-der Stars 1s
Term 1 Week 8 2025 - Friday 22nd March
What have we been up to?
We’ve had another wonderful week in Grade 1, and we are excited to share what the students have been up to!
In our reading sessions, the students have been continuing their journey with the delightful books by Nick Bland. Last week, they read The Very Hungry Bear. These stories have been a hit, with lots of laughs and exciting moments. This week students have begun learning how to create their own narrative. We’ve been using planners to help organize the beginning, middle, and end of their stories. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity come to life as they plan and share their ideas for their own tales.
In maths, we’ve been diving deeper into number lines and using Numicon to help understand numbers. The students have been having fun using these tools to count, add and compare numbers, building a strong foundation for their number skills.
We’ve also introduced the concept of odd and even numbers. The students have been learning to identify these numbers and understand the differences between them. It’s been fantastic to see how quickly they’re picking up this new idea!
We are so proud of the hard work and progress each student is making. We look forward to another exciting week ahead!
Here are some photo highlights from the fortnight that was!

What is coming up?
Reading + Writing
In the next fortnight, we will continue to plan, write, and edit our own narratives. The students will first plan a narrative as a whole class, and then independently use that plan to create their own stories. We’re excited to see how their writing skills develop through this process!
Maths
In Maths, students will be looking at shape and focusing on identifying and describing two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes.
