Term 1 Week 8 - 21st March 2025

What we are learning!

Each day the Preps are involved in so much learning. They really are hitting the ground running. Daily I am  blown away at their continuous growth, ability to take risks, try new things and their resilience. They have quickly learnt the routine of the school day and are embracing it at every opportunity. Preps enjoyed the visit by the fire education program which was a big success. We have also started a countdown to 100 days of Learning which will fall around the end of July/Early August. Details will follow, however there is already a lot of excitement

Maths:

We have moved onto shapes.  It has been exciting to explore 2 and 3 dimensional shapes. Students have enjoyed going on shape hunts as well as making their own shape monsters in class.  As always we regularly practise our number formations using whiteboards, chalk, playdough etc.

Literacy:

Phonics is taught daily and the Preps are  really enjoying this lesson. Letter sounds are the focus in these lessons.  We are also learning to sound out, then blend CVC words Students are beginning to use their sound arms to sound out and blend CVC words. Many are now attempting to write these independently or with teacher support.  Thankyou to the families that are doing daily flashcard practise. It makes such a difference to your child's confidence.  If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me.

We are continuing with our novel study  on the author Julia Donaldson. This previous fortnight we have read Zog and Zog and the flying Doctors. Students are drawing their characters and settings in the story and now we are writing about the characters and settings.  I am impressed with all students for giving this a try. It is wonderful to see their confidence grow each week with their writing.

In writing we are exploring the importance of full sentences and not leaving out any words in our writing or verbal communication. Preps have enjoyed making silly sentences by leaving out a word. However, also understand the importance of communicating with a full sentence when writing or speaking.

Leader In me:

We are continually using the language of the 7 habits in the classroom. It is lovely to hear students using the 7 habits language in the classroom. .

Inquiry:

The family photos you sent in were a big hit. We  showed them on the screen and each child proudly introduced their family.  They are also all displayed on our wall in the classroom and I often see the students looking at these photos throughout the day.  There are still a couple of family photos that we don’t have. If those families could please and these in ASAP we can display these with the other photos.
