From Our School Leaders

It’s been a very busy week celebrating many things...

Fun With Family

Games Afternoon @ SPS Hall

Sunday 27th April, 2.00-4.00pm - ALL WELCOME!

We are very excited and proud of three of our Year 6 leaders - Tommy, Emily and Dante. These 3 students came to us two weeks ago with an idea to plan some events for our school community.

They got very inspired at the Leadership Conference which they attended in early February with their peer leaders. After the conference, they spoke to their class teacher about some ideas they’d like to get off the ground.

We have had a couple of planning meetings, and we are very happy to announce the first of their ideas is a family event coming up soon, Week 1 of Term 2.

Fun With Family (FWF) is a community event where families are invited to come to the school hall on Sunday afternoon, and play board games together.

The games will be provided, as will light refreshments. Families are welcome to bring their own games if they wish.

We are really impressed to see our school leaders step up and show this initiative. We hope our school community can make the time to come along and support them.

Harmony Week

The theme for this year’s Harmony Week is “HARMONY - we all have a role to play,” in celebrating cultural diversity.

Harmony Week is celebrated in March in schools across Australia each year. Harmony Week is a perfect time for students at Scoresby PS to practise our school value of ACCEPTANCE.

During Harmony Week we encourage our students to appreciate the differences and similarities of others’ cultures and traditions, and share their own culture and traditions too. We listen and learn about others and talk about Inclusiveness.

Many people come to Australia to live from other countries. It is very important for our students to learn tolerance and acceptance of others, and to make everyone feel part of our school community, no matter where they were born, and show mutual respect regardless of colour, race, religion or background.

Here are a few interesting statistics about Australia’s population:

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all of our Year 3 and Year 5 students for completing their NAPLAN tests for 2025. It has been a very smooth process at SPS, with staff well prepared each morning in the hall. We have a few children to catch up this week due to absences. We are looking forward to receiving the results mid-year.

Twilight Sports

Thank you to Ms Symons for her organisation with the 2025 SPS Twilight Sports. It was a fantastic afternoon of fun for all. Thanks also to our PFA members, Leigh and Belinda Reynen and Mei Chan, for helping with the setup/packup and serving of food and drinks, and Erin Parkin and Natasha Sadler, for organising and running the Sausage Sizzle; it is always a big hit with our hungry community. Thank you to Tina for her work behind the scenes, and in selling drinks and icy poles, which were very popular on the warm afternoon.

Apologies that Mrs Rheumer and Mrs Hartley could not be at the event; we were attending a day of professional learning at the Victorian Academy.

Crazy Hair Day

Tuesday was Crazy Hair Day, with all funds raised by gold coin donation going to the Royal Children’s Hospital Good Friday Appeal. This event was organised by our Student Representative Council (SRC) who are working with Mrs Holdsworth this year.  Thanks for getting this first event up and going.  Thanks also to those who participated; there were some very clever hair designs this morning.
