Year 11 & 12

It was wonderful to see so many patents here at Thursdays Learning conferences. The parentership between the college and home is essential to establishing the foundations for academic success in your children. As teachers, it is always lovely to put faces to names and to meet families as we begin each new year at school.  In addition, subject teachers will soon be completing Progress Reports for their students. These are a snapshot of the application to course work exhibited by students and reflects on aspects such as the completion of set work in class, completion of homework as well as the effort placed on learning in each class. These reports provide an important indication of the future academic success of each student, and it is important parents and guardians check these with their child to best support the learning opportunities at school. These will be available to parents at the end of the term.

Last week our year 12 students were treated to a return visit from some of the top performing year 12 students from last year. They participated in a Q & A style forum providing advice, wisdom and encouragement to the year 12’s. It was fascinating to listen to their individual perspectives over the past year and to find out the pathways and university courses they have selected. We as a college are so very proud of these wonderful young adults and eagerly await to track their progress as they continue with their studies. Congratulations to our current school captains, Leo and Minh for their fabulous hosting of this event.

In the coming fortnight, year 11 and year 12 English teachers will be involved in a full day's professional learning session with educational consultant and past VCE past Chief English assessor Ross Huggard. Ross has worked with our English staff over several couple of years, supporting our English program.  His many years of experience in assessing year 12 English examination papers and breadth of content knowledge of the VCE English Study Design has been most valuable in establishing the necessary rigour in course delivery to support our LSC students achieving great results.  These next sessions will continue to focus on ensuring that the teaching team are confident in assessment practices and protocols for the first few Schools Assessed Course work tasks students will or have already completed. We are pleased to have Ross continuing to work with us throughout the year.

The College has once again purchased subscriptions for students completing units 3 and 4 to access Edrolo. This is an online platform which supports senior students completing VCE with the provision of access to quizzes, exam questions, additional revision materials and video lessons provided by a range of educators on all key knowledge points as written in the current VCE subject study designs. These are incredibly useful as additions to the lessons provided here by our wonderful year 12 teachers, and past students who have excelled in their final years, have all spoken of the value that Edrolo provided in helping them acquire excellent VCE results. Login information was provided to students on Compass and via Teams. Please check in with your child to ensure they are using this wonderful resource.

Ms. Jade Charalambous LSC Careers counsellor has been working with our year 12 students, spending time holding individual appointments to support students in their planning looking towards career and post-secondary school options.  For some students, the decisions surrounding future pathways can be difficult to make, and having conversations with your child at home can assist. These conversations had already commenced at the end of year 10, where subject counselling and course selections were undertaken to ensure University or TAFE pathways are supported by the choice of subject’s students have selected. Shortly students will be attending Careers expo sessions where they can further investigate their pathway options. Please feel free to contact Jade should you require an appointment with your child.

The senior students are continuing to complete their first couple of School Assessed tasks, and for some, juggling the demands of each subject are proving challenging. Our senior school team have been supporting them with practical sessions about developing study timetables and adhering to adequate homework schedules. Moving towards the end of term opens up an opportunity for you as parents and guardians to check in with your children to see how they are tracking and ensure they are keeping up to date with subject requirements. As always please don’t hesitate to contact relevant subject teachers or the senior school team if you have and queries or concerns. It is through our strong partnership that we can ensure the best possible outcomes for our students.
