Thank You!
Once again a massive thank you to everyone in the Scotsburn Community for the way we were all able to manage the Mt Buninyong fire situation last week in such a calm and cooperative manner. As I mentioned last week, this truly was a team effort, and it is reassuring to know that our emergency management processes are well practiced and thought out to ensure the safety of everyone in our school community. Hopefully that is the last of the emergencies that we have to manage for a while!
Grade 3 - 6 Interhouse Athletics Day
Whilst the evacuation and relocation of SC1 was happening last week, our Grade 3 - 6 students were having an amazing time at the Interhouse Athletics Day. All of our Scotsburn students gave their all in each event, consistently striving for their personal best in each event with a smile on their face. Well done everyone!!!
Fete Help!
The Fete is not far away, with the big day being Friday 21st March. We have now confirmed our Scotsburn stalls, with SC1 Running a BBQ and SC2 running the Pulled Pork Rolls stand. These stalls should run very smoothly as we were able to run both these at the last fete in 2023. All ordering and preparation should be taken care of, however we will definitely be requiring lots of assistance on the night.
Please see below a volunteer roster for the night. We would love to have all spots filled. It is also great to involve the students at the stalls, particularly the older students.

This week, our Year 3 and 5 students have their NAPLAN assessments. See the table below for dates and times.
TEST | Date/Time |
NAPLAN Writing | Wednesday March 12th 9:30am |
NAPLAN Reading | Thursday March 13th 9:30am |
NAPLAN Conventions of Language | Friday March 14th 9:30am |
NAPLAN Numeracy | Monday March 17th 9:30am |
All students will require headphones that are compatible with an iPad, as all NAPLAN tests are completed online apart from Grade 3 Writing. Please ensure that you have this organised this week. Students at Scotsburn will be able to use school devices, which will set up each day, ready to go.
From 9:30am - 11am on NAPLAN mornings, our Grade 4s and 6s will be able to complete their regular program, including specialist sessions. Should we require a catch up session for any absent students, this will occur on Tuesday 18th March.
SC1 Learning Snapshot
This week was a great showcase of how good we are at adapting to changes. Thank you all for support with the relocation and movements throughout the week.
We didn’t think on Monday that it would be our only day at our campus, but it was. Tuesday we visited Buninyong for the Questacon Incursion. Where we saw some visitors from Canberra run some science experiments. Super well done to our SC1 students who braved themselves and asked questions and answered some scientific questions to the whole P-2 group.
Wednesday we were relocated with the fire back up to the Buninyong campus where we stayed for the next two days. A remarkable day to remember our Preps first Wednesday at school!
We also had Nash and Aelwen compete in the Interschool Athletics at Lamberris. Well done to all students. A hot day, and they all put in a great effort to achieve their personal best.
Thursday we had some normality to our usual classroom routines focusing on recounts in literacy and place value in numeracy.
Friday was a great ending to our week. Celebrating the Teddy Bears picnic with the Buninyong Preps. The students showed great leadership in their four rotations throughout the morning. Storytime with the Teddy’s, Teddy Drawing, Parachute Teddy and Bear Hunting. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing their faces during our reenactment and retell of the story ‘We are Going on a Bear Hunt.’
We shared a picnic lunch in the Buninyong Botanical gardens, and in the afternoon we were back together as a SC1 group.
During the afternoon we used the gym for ball skills and we also had a bonus library session. During our library session the children role played the story of ‘The Very Cranky Bear’ dressing up as characters in the story, this was certainly a highlight for some throughout the day.
It certainly was a fun, busy week. With these big events it is also important to remember that there is plenty of learning happening in, as well as outside the classroom, which is what school is all about.
We hope you had a lovely long weekend.

SC2 Learning Snapshot
Well what a week that was! Science incursions, athletics days, bushfires and relocations. We even managed to fit some learning in! Again, a massive well done to all the students in SC2 - we couldn’t be prouder of the way all students navigated the week with minimal fuss.
We wish a big good luck to all our Grade 3 and 5 students who are undertaking NAPLAN assessments this week. We know you will give it your best shot! We also wish our Grade 6s well on their Grand Prix Excursion on Thursday - we cannot wait to hear about that experience!!!
In class this week we will be finishing our persuasive writing pieces as well as looking at pieces of literature that have cultural significance to our Australian history. We will be analysing these in terms of what they mean to us today. In Maths we are digging deep into Number, looking at factors of numbers and how to make tricky multiplication problems a little bit easier.
Have another incredible week,
Jarrod and Liz
Specialist Learning Snapshot - Art
This term we are making the most of the beautiful weather to work on some creative additions to our school environment. Our first project is to add clay tiles to the reinforcement mesh which is mounted on the side of the art portable, and we have been busy creating self portraits, nature tiles and clay birds for this purpose. Currently we are in the process of firing and glazing these, so watch out in a few weeks for a colourful new wall to admire! Next, we will turn our attention to painting the produce cupboard, finishing our Bunjil and chook shed murals, and finally to creating a mosaic outside the Sc1 and Sc2 portables. Lots to look forward to!
Liz
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements. If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
