Year 3/4 News

Learning Centre Two

It has been a busy last few weeks for the 3/4 team as we rapidly approach the end of the term. Due to the warm weather conditions, our students need to bring their hat to school each day, and are encouraged to drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated, and apply sunscreen before they go outside.

Special Events

In the last two weeks we have celebrated a Whole School Mass, the Year 3 Reconciliation Spirituality Day, Family Workshop and Sacrament and National Ride2School Day.

During our Whole School Mass, there was a particular focus on Jesus’ teaching on how we can pray to forgive others. Our students participated reverently together as a community in prayer and celebration. Our students participated in the National Ride2School Day, and they were encouraged to be physically active on their journey to school. A survey carried out by our students in Learning Centre 2 revealed that sixteen people walked to school, thirteen people rode a bike, and five people rode a scooter!

Reconciliation

Last week the Year 3 students participated in a Reconciliation Spirituality Day where they explored the Sacrament of Reconciliation as a celebration of God's love and mercy. This was followed by a Family Workshop where families had an opportunity to talk to each other about forgiveness and explore the steps involved in the Rite of Reconciliation. This preparation lay the foundation for a very reverant and prayerful celebration on Tuesday night when the students received the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Congratulations to all students who received the Sacrament and took the next step on their faith journey.

Literacy

In Literacy, our Year 4s have continued to read about empowering people throughout history. They have added any new information read to their Mind Maps to show their understanding. The students have been learning how to write summaries with a particular focus on revising and editing their sentences before publishing.

Our Year 3s have been continuing to read through different Jory John Books from the food group series. They have enjoyed using text and images to comprehend the stories and think about the greater theme and message the author was portraying. The students have been learning how to write a plan for a character description, giving details about their physical and personality traits. They are also using the Jory John stories as inspiration to start planning their own creative story which they will be publishing into their own little book.

Numeracy

In Numeracy, our Year 4s have been learning about time. They have been using strategies such as a number line and T-chart organiser to calculate elapsed time for worded problems.

Our Year 3s have been learning about formal units of time, how to measure time, and how to make reasonable estimates of time. They have also begun their unit on multiplication and division. They have been learning about arrays and the connections between multiplication and division with single digit numbers.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, our Year 4s have been inquiring into health. This has involved identifying emotions in themselves and others, using strategies to manage emotions and explaining how emotions can affect their health. They have been using a Mind Map to sort out their information and help them explain their understanding.

Our Year 3s have been continuing to look at emotions and how they experience different emotions for different reasons. They have been identifying what happens to their bodies when they feel emotions, what can cause emotions and how they can manage their own emotions.

Religion

In Religion, our Year 4s have been looking at the Passover and the Last Supper. This has involved exploring the rituals involved in the Passover meal and the importance of these. They have also been making connections between the Passover and the Last Supper to find out how both are related.

Our Year 3s have been continuing their work around Reconciliation. They have also begun learning about Lent and some of the different events of Holy Week.

Wellbeing

In Wellbeing, our Year 3s and 4s have been learning about responsibility and internet safety. They have been exploring how to be responsible for their words and actions. The students have also been learning how to name their rights using the internet, and explain how they feel and what to do when they feel unsafe online.
