Silver Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey

Congratulations to the 3 Year 10 and 8 Year 11 students who completed the recent Silver Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journey.

The students hiked approximately 40km over 3 days in Glenbrook National Park.

Cliff climbs, river navigation, bush camping and extreme weather provided an opportunity for the students to put into practice the skills required for this prestigious Award.

A very big thank you to the P&F for their support, and to Mr Stollery for his time and dedication towards this very worthwhile activity.

Mr Paul de Silva - Outdoor Education Coordinator

From the Senior Resource Centre

Did you know Australia is home to some 230 species of frogs? However, some frog populations are declining through habitat loss, climate change, disease and pollution. Consequently, the senior library is promoting World Frog Day with an educational exhibition to shine a light on these amazing amphibians. There’s also a fun frog guessing competition. Jimmy (Year 8) is the perfect person to promote this competition. His interest in the natural world was apparent when he first entered the library in Year 7 and made a beeline for the natural science collection. He’s read many of the books in this area including Darwin’s Origin of the Species.

If you’d like to learn more about Australian frogs, the Australian Museum’s Frog ID app is a must. The app was designed as part of a strategy to help save frogs. You can record and log frog calls to help scientists better understand and conserve Australia’s frogs.

Unleash Your Creativity at Art Lab!

Art Lab is a new cocurricular activity offered for students from Years 8 to 11. A pilot program will run in 2025 to gauge interest with the possibility of expansion for other year groups in 2026. Spaces are limited so interested students will need parents to register quickly through Clipboard. Clipboard will open at 12:00 pm on Friday 21 March.

Art Lab is all about extending your artmaking skills without the pressure of assessment and theory classes. The group fosters artistic growth, encourages critical thinking, and builds confidence in expressing individual creativity. Whether you are refining your current skills or discovering new passions, Art Lab nurtures your artistic journey while cultivating a strong sense of community and inspiration.

Joining the after school Art Lab group offers a unique opportunity for you to expand your creative skills in a supportive and collaborative environment.

You don’t need to be a current Visual Arts student to join Art Lab – it is open to all students from Year 8 to 11.

Get your hands dirty! Learn how to throw pots on the wheel, discover new skills and print a t-shirt, work on collaborative projects for display around the College, enter art competitions which will showcase your talents.

Work with students from many different year groups and create new friendships with likeminded people who share your passion for art.

Expert guidance – learn from experienced art teachers and trained ex-students.

Art Lab provides a space to explore various art forms, experiment with new techniques, and receive constructive feedback from peers and instructors.

At the end of the season your artworks will be celebrated with an exhibition for you, your parents/carers, family and friends to attend.

Art Lab will count towards your cocurricular commitment.

Activity selections must be completed by a Parent/Carer through Clipboard. Completion and payment of selections will be acknowledged as 'consent to participate’ in the activity.

'Verbal Combat' Performance, Year 8

On Wednesday 12 March, students in the Year 8 cohort watched a powerful presentation about bullying. The play, titled 'Verbal Combat', outlined various elements of bullying, including verbal, physical, cyber, emotional intimidation. Using the familiar context of a high school, the play outlined a number of relatable scenarios. They showed the consequences of bullying and how the person feels who is getting bullied, as well as providing strategies to combat and call out poor behaviour. 'Verbal Combat' was a worthwhile presentation and the themes explored will help us to be a more inclusive cohort.
