Harmony Day Council Event
On Tuesday, 20 Year 11 students had the opportunity to go to a Willoughby City Council event to celebrate Harmony Day. We were joined by members of the community as well as another 20 students from Mercy.
It was a day to celebrate multiculturalism in Australia and learn about the different cultures in our community. There were 6 tables consisting of food from various countries including, Singapore, Italy, Japan, Iran, Indonesia and a quiz for guessing different spices from different cultures. While enjoying the food, we learnt about the history, how they were made and the significance of it in their culture.
We were then given the opportunity to ask about their culture. It opened our eyes to how diverse our community is and how important it is for those from other cultural backgrounds to express and teach us about their own culture.
We were all pleased to learn more and benefit from each other in society.
