For the second year running, we rounded off our Cultural Diversity Week and Harmony Day celebrations with a sensational 'Countries of ENPS' event on Friday! Our staff were thrilled to run this special day again, thanks to the support of many wonderful volunteer family members.
Just like last year, classrooms were transformed into different countries and 28 groups of students 'travelled around the world' to explore destinations and celebrate a variety of cultures. Each group comprised of students ranging from Foundation to Year Six. We had a wide range of countries on offer, including Singapore, Canada, Brazil, Malta, Russia, Italy, India, New Zealand and many more!
Our volunteers had created a lesson plan with a designated classroom teacher and together, presented an informative and engaging lesson about their country, along with a fun activity to support the information.
Students carried a passport with them which was stamped when arriving at a new destination, and each group visited three different countries. Their captain spoke over the speaker system, welcoming our students on board ENPS Airlines, and cabin crew throughout the day would advise the groups when their next ‘flight’ was leaving. Students drew the flag of their new country and wrote down one fact they learned during the session.
There was lots of energy throughout the day and some wonderful conversations afterwards about how students had been on a holiday and travelled to certain countries, followed by sharing what they had made or learnt during their day of travel.
A special shout out to all new volunteers this year - our students were so excited and absolutely loved having family members present in our classrooms (as did our staff)! Engaging with and learning about so many interesting cultures is such a highlight for our students. We'd love to see even more volunteers at future events, the more the merrier! Teams of two volunteers or more in each room are certainly welcome - Italy even had four volunteers this year. Why not team up with other family or friends to share your culture with our students? We love hearing your stories and embracing our wonderfully diverse school community!
Countries of ENPS would not happen without this tremendous support of our parents and carers. Friday was a very special day and we are incredibly grateful for your time, energy and efforts to make the day such a success!
Warm regards,
The ENPS Community Engagement and Cultural Inclusion Team
