Year Three

Local Walk – Niddrie Library Visit
As part of our Unit of Inquiry, How We Organise Ourselves, Year Three students have been exploring the central idea: Communities respond to local needs. On Thursday 13th Marc, students embarked on a local walk to the Niddrie Library, focusing on identifying various businesses and services that support our community.
Our visit to the library was both informative and engaging. Students discovered the important role libraries play in meeting community needs, from providing access to books and learning resources to offering free internet and a comfortable, air-conditioned space for visitors. Many were surprised by the wide range of services available and the welcoming atmosphere of the library. We invite you to explore the students’ reflections and work samples below, showcasing their learning from this valuable experience!
Suzanne, the librarian, was delighted to host us and captivated the students with an engaging reading of the picture book MAXOLOTL!. Her enthusiasm made the experience even more enjoyable.
This excursion provided students with a deeper appreciation of the essential services within our community and the important role libraries play in supporting lifelong learning. It was a wonderful experience that enriched their understanding of how communities work together to meet local needs.
A special thank you to the parents who generously volunteered their time to help supervise the students. We were also incredibly proud of how responsibly and safely our students conducted themselves throughout the local walk.
