From the Year 3 Classroom
Reading- This week we wrap up our author study on Claire Saxby with students writing book reviews on their favourite Claire Saxby books..
This week we also finished serial reading ‘Mr Stink’ by David Walliams. This was a most enjoyable and funny book to share with our students.
Writing- We have been busy preparing our Nonfiction Narratives on our Australian animal. After lots of research and drafting, we have published an eBook in Clips, recording our voice and narrating our stories against selected images. At the end of this week we are showcasing our writing talents with the Grade 2 cohort.
Spelling Bee- We held our end of Term 2 Spelling Bee this week. All the students did an amazing job. A big congratulations to Isabella He, who took out this term’s competition.!
Our other finalists who gave Bella a run for her money were- Arlo Morgan, Freddie Wilson, Harvey Stacey, Ember Runnalls and Matilda Courtney.
RE- This week we complete our Source of Life unit of work is ‘Circle of Life’,. Many students shared memory bags of either a person or a pet which they had lost. They were keen to share beautiful memories of these special people and pets. We have also had discussions around who we can turn to in times of sadness and how those closest to us can help during these times.
Maths- Congratulations to Freddie Wilson, Jack Hawking, Annabelle Kennedy, Milla Wollington and Mason Viggor on completing their timestables challenge last week! Keep up the practise everyone!
Inquiry-
Last week we looked at changes heat makes by watching what happens to popcorn.
We learnt that heat energy changes things. The heat produced in the microwave caused the kernel to open and expand, changing it into popcorn. After our observations, we got to eat the yummy evidence!
We wrapped up our Physical Science unit this week with a bit of fun by creating videos that demonstrate our learning.
Criteria for our videos included-
- sources of heat
- measuring heat/heat temperatures
- heat changes
REMINDERS:
- Please remember that we ask all students to bring their Reading Diary on each Friday so we can check in on their home reading. Many students are forgetting to do this so if parents and guardians could remind them it would be greatly appreciated.
