From the Year 1 Classroom

We can not believe we are halfway through Year 1. Time flies when you are having fun!

We are so proud of what all the children have achieved this semester and their awesome learning.

In Reading, we have been very clever and looking at the skill of synthesising. We have tracked our thinking and looked at how our thoughts and ideas change and grow as we read, drawing on our connections, prior knowledge and making inferences. We have practised this skill using wordless books to really switch on our imaginations.

In Writing, we have continued our role as an ‘author’ and adding words to illustrations in wordless books. We have been very busy working through the Writing Process and are finally up to the publishing stage, which is very exciting. We are looking forward to sharing these with our peers and sending a copy home to show off and share with our families.

In Maths, we have been going over and extending our understanding of numbers. Some of the areas we have been covering are addition, subtraction, number lines, place value, odd and even numbers, partitioning and so much more.

In Religion, we enjoyed writing cards to the children who made their Confirmation and Eucharist. We hope they had a fabulous celebration. We have identified the gifts of the Holy Spirit and people in our lives who show these gifts. We are surrounded by so many people amazing people in our lives who love, care and inspire us to be the best person we can be.

Your child’s school report is now up on PAM for you to read.

Another reminder, that we are working on developing the children’ independence and encouraging children to walk into the learning space on their own.

Winter has well and truly hit! Please ensure your child is wearing a jumper or jacket when they come to school in the morning and that they are clearly labelled with their name. Thanks in advance.

Last but not least, thank you for your continued support and for the wonderful children that you are raising. We have absolutely loved teaching the super Year 1 group of 2024 and look forward to another wonderful semester of teaching and fun.

Enjoy the school holidays, stay warm and take care.
