Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be Your Best.

This week we are focusing on making sure our classrooms and school yard are clean and tidy before the school holidays. It is important that we put our rubbish in the correct bins and clean up after ourselves. We take pride in our school and how clean and tidy the facilities are.

Our fortnightly blitz is:

“Sacred Heart has a wish, to reduce its amount of RUBBISH. So put it in the right bin and you’ll know you've done the right thing!”

PBIS End-of-Term Celebration

Drum roll, please!..

Last week, our Fatima House team was able to celebrate a successful term of positive behaviour and great choices by enjoying a movie afternoon with popcorn, hot chocolates and treats. With the cold winter weather upon us, this was the perfect opportunity to snuggle up comfy cosy and enjoy a relaxing afternoon for a job well done.

Our PBIS House Points are rewarded for positive behaviour and choices shown by our students across the school every day throughout the term. Congratulations Fatima House and for all of the great work and choices you have been making!

The Resilience Project

We work closely with The Resilience Project to support the well-being of our school community. The Resilience Project delivers emotionally engaging programs and provides evidence-based, practical strategies to build resilience.

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be sharing the Parent & Carer Hub with you. The videos are 5-10 minutes long and will walk through the key pillars of resilience with some new content: Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness, Connection & Vulnerability. You’ll hear stories and be introduced to activities to show how these strategies can support your children's learning and development, and also support you as parents and carers.

This week’s presentation from The Resilience Project focuses on Empathy and Kindness.

Empathy is our ability to put ourselves in the shoes of others to feel and see what they do. We practice this through being kind and compassionate towards other people.

Brain imaging data shows that being kind to others registers in the brain as more like eating chocolate than like fulfilling an obligation to do what’s right (e.g., eating brussel sprouts)!

Research shows that practising empathy, such as performing acts of kindness, taps into our brain’s ‘mirror neurons’, builds compassion and our behaviour becomes more social and community-based.

In this presentation, Hugh shares how being kind and putting yourself in someone else’s shoes can make you feel good as well as have a positive effect on others. He shares some practical activities you could do as a family.

Seasons for Growth

Learning to live with change and loss

Everyone is affected by change and loss at some time in our lives. At Sacred Heart Primary School we recognise that when changes occur such as separation, divorce, death, school transitions and natural disasters children may benefit from learning the skills to manage these changes effectively. We are therefore offering an education program called Seasons for Growth which will commence in Term 3.

This program is facilitated in small groups of up to 7 participants and is based on research which highlights the importance of social support and the need to practise new skills to cope effectively with change and loss. The program focuses on building skills such as how to manage feelings, problem-solving, decision-making, effective communication and develops peer support networks. Participation in the program can promote improved self-esteem and self-confidence as well as giving children the opportunity to find their own voice amid change.

If you think your child/ children would enjoy joining the Seasons for Growth program, we encourage you to talk to him/her about it. We are pleased to be able to offer this successful program and we are confident that it will be a valuable learning experience for those involved.
