Student Achievement: Diamond Valley Tennis Association

On Friday 21 June, Quinn Faldon (Year 7, Everard House) and Gilbert Shaw (Year 7, Pakana House) represented the Kangaroo Ground Reds in the Diamond Valley Tennis Association Section 5 Singles Finals.  The boys played to their best putting all their energy and skill into the game and as a result were victorious winning this Season’s Premiership flag.

They need to be very proud of their achievement as we are of them. This is one of those “Watch this Space” moments as these young champions, I am sure, will continue in their sport to bigger and better things. Congratulations to Quinn and Gilbert on an outstanding effort.

Nillumbik Local Employers' Forum

On Tuesday 25 June, the VCE-Vocational Major students ventured out to the Nillumbik Local Employers' Forum. This was held at the Community Stadium in Diamond Creek.

During the event students were introduced to local employers in various industries, who informed and inspired students about the world of work, career pathways and future employment prospects in their sector.

The aim of the event was to connect young people with local employers with the possibility of a Structured Workplace Learning placements, School Based Apprenticeships or Trainee opportunity or casual/part-time employment.

Students had the opportunity to increase their understanding of various industries and career pathways, hear from local workers about their career pathway, position, and industry and importantly, further develop their employability skills required to obtain a job.

Industries included Building and Construction, Community Services, Trades, Hospitality, Electrical and Sport and Recreation and was hosted by the BNLLEN.

I thank Felicia Pellegrino (Careers/Pathways Coordinator) for organising this event for our young people as well as the staff that attended the day.

Term 3 - 2024

We are currently in the process of recruiting for several Leading Teacher position for the start of 2025. Our aim is then to work on the school’s workforce plan at the start of Term 3 with the hope that we will have a fully staffed school for the start of the new year.

Term 3 will be a very busy term with several Information Evenings that I strongly encourage all parents to attend as each information evening will outline the pathway of progress through the school for your student/s. For the senior years the Information Evenings also provide support for students and families to identify their chosen pathway post-secondary school and select the appropriate program of study that will get them there.

Student course selection will follow for the various level's Information Evenings and from there we will begin to build student programs, classes and the draft timetable.

We look forward to seeing all parents/carers at their student's respective Information Evening. Details of these will be published closer to the dates.

STEAM Centre Development

The Architects are currently preparing documentation for the project to be put out to tender.  We hope this will occur early in Term 3 so that a contractor can be appointed, and the work begin prior to the end of the year.  I will keep you updated on this.

Note of condolences

I extend the sincerest condolences of the entire Eltham High School Community to the Irwin family on the recent passing of past student Thomas Irwin (Class of 2022). Our thoughts go out to his parents Kathryn and Morgan and to his siblings.

Kathryn’s friends and colleagues at Caring Farms Coop in Greensborough have set up a “Go Fund Me” fundraiser to ensure that the family do not have the burden of financial pressures whilst they deal with what's ahead.

You can contribute to this through the following page. I thank you for your generosity in supporting one of our own.

End of Term 2

We are close to the end of a rather long term. I take this opportunity to wish all students and staff a restful and relaxing break and remind Year 12 students in particular that whilst it is important for them to have a break they cannot totally neglect their studies. I wish them all well.

As is customary at the end of each term, on Friday 28 June school will finish at 2:30 pm. I ask parents to ensure that students are provided with a safe return home for the early finish.
