𖣂 Week 9 𖣂
wawa, Wumindjika
(hello, welcome)
The last two weeks have flown by, with this week being short yet busy!
Week 8 and 9 have been full of learning and investigation as we focused on understanding the structure and key components of information reports. We have explored efficient methods for calculating the perimeter of various shapes and learned about important places in our community. It has been a productive and engaging couple of weeks for everyone!

Connecting to Country
On Wednesday, the 2-6 learners traveled by train to Melbourne for a Connecting to Country experience at the Royal Botanical Gardens.
This experience allowed children to explore the unique cultural practices of the Kulin Nations of Melbourne and the sustainable land practices used by First Peoples across Australia. Learners discovered indigenous plants and their uses and significance to First Peoples, learned how First Peoples care for the plants and Country, and examined tools and technologies designed and made by First Peoples.
The 4/5/6 learners did a fantastic job of traveling via Vline train, Metro train, and tram to the Royal Botanical Gardens. They displayed their leadership by assisting the younger 2/3 learners with getting on and off public transport, moving safely along footpaths, and respecting the public. It was a great life skills experience for our group of learners, and we are incredibly proud of the way they represented St Joseph's throughout the day!

Numeracy
This week, learners channeled their understanding of perimeter into designing their dream homes. We began our sessions by investigating existing floor plans and practicing efficient strategies for finding the perimeter, such as building to ten, doubling, and near doubling.
Learners then used their creativity to design the home of their dreams, incorporating features like indoor pools, secret rooms, 10-car garages, and spaces for their pets, siblings, and parents. This activity showcased both their practicality and their imaginative visions.

What's to come...
Week 10 - Swimming commences Monday and finishes on Friday.
Week 11 - Last week of Term 2. Final day June 28th

As we come to the end of the term, especially after our big week, quite a few of the 4/5/6 members (including myself) are feeling the end-of-term effects.
I hope everyone enjoys a restful weekend and comes back refreshed and ready to approach our final two weeks of Term!
