What's Happening in the F/1 Classroom?
We have been focussing on the /l/ sound this week, practising our letter formation of the uppercase and lowercase /l/ and writing words and sentences featuring the /l/ sound. The children enjoyed writing alliteration sentences and brainstorming many words with the /l/ sound from the picture below.
The students have been making a sound book each week & enjoy reading them during free reading time.
We have continued to revise our counting, making small collections, and matching numerals to amounts. We had a huge session of rotational activities when the 2/3 joined us on Thursday which included using a number line to help us solve equations, building with magnetic blocks, fraction puzzles, board games as well as number games on the iPads.
On Wednesday when we ‘ruled the school’ due to the 2-6’s being in Melbourne on an excursion, we took the opportunity to use our measurement skills, throwing our self designed and made aeroplanes on the courts and using a metre wheel we measured how far each plane went.
The furthest was Finley whose plane went 21m!
With the cold weather we've been experiencing, we decided that a hot lunch was a good idea this week. We made mini pizzas using English muffins, red sauce, ham, cheese and pineapple. The students were patient and respectful when waiting their turn to add their toppings and enjoyed eating their creations. We then did a sequencing activity where we ordered the steps we used to create our pizza.
We have enjoyed using the iPads to find information on topics we are interested in and to find certain websites. The students have been practising using voice commands, making sure they speak clearly and loudly enough to achieve the results they want.
