Clyde North Campus News

It is hard to believe we have just about completed 11 weeks of schooling as term two draws to a close. However, when we reflect on all that has been achieved, we can see how every minute of the eleven weeks was indeed needed and productively used.

As the term draws to a close, tradition remains strong as we always celebrate our patron saint, Peter on the last Tuesday of term two. This year the celebrations will be equal if not better than 2023 as each House prepares to run fun filled events to raise money for those in need. Carnival rides will again feature on the day. However, the heart of the day belongs to the celebration of the St Peter’s Day Mass. This year we have been truly blessed to have Bishop Greg Bennet lead us in this special celebration mass.

Students are permitted to wear casual dress however they need to adhere to the dress code as published on SPACE. Casual dress that is warm, sensible and suitable to attend mass underpins the dress code.

To celebrate the term, this  edition of the newsletter presents a brief reflection on the some of the activities and events that may not have had the chance to make our social media or the newsletter yet.

Year 9 XSPAND Committee

The election and appointment of the Year 9 Committee is a critical element of the XSPAND program. This is a unique committee made up of representatives from each Year 9 tutor group to develop leadership skills and foster leadership qualities. It is a vocal group that raises contemporary issues relevant for this year level’s academic and social wellbeing. In every year level we encourage students to put themselves forward as forum leaders and members of the SRC. It was pleasing to see so many students nominate for the XSPAND Committee showing that there is a real appreciation and understanding of servant leadership at St Peter’s College.

Well done and we look forward to witnessing the development of the goals and aspirations of this student led committee.

Music Ministry comes alive

We are reminded of the wonderful Journey in Music Ministry workshop that was held earlier this term. The music ministry classes from both campuses spent the day in the Geode with special guest Genevieve Bryant. The energy was electric and the talent amazing as the students and staff immersed themselves in a song, music and a deep sense of faith. This is an event we hope to celebrate again.

VCE VM Sustainable Goals Interviews

Congratulations again go to our VCE VM year 12 students who presented their Sustainable Goals projects at panel interviews. A nervous time for students as they formally present the goal, they have planned for a critical component of their final assessment for VCE VM. Term 3 will now be busy working on implementing their goal and based on the standard of presentations the panel critiqued we are in for some exciting projects next term.

Legal students go on tour to Pentridge!

This week saw the year 11 Legal Studies class visit the old Pentridge Jail and what an experience they had. Students and staff were in awe of the prison buildings and the history evoking mixed feelings of justice, injustice and sadness as the stories of the inmates were brought to life by their tour guide. Overall, a wonderful day, and we can be very proud of the way our students represented themselves and the college during this event. Thank you to the Mrs Constantine and Mrs Storey for organizing this event which led to much learning and understanding beyond the classroom.

VET Hospitality Parent Dinner

Indeed, one of the highlights of the term two calendar each year is the Parent Dinner prepared by the VET Hospitality students and this year was no exemption. The Year 1 students prepared a delicious three course meal for the families last week. The standard of food and presentation was exceptional and would rival any top restaurant. Led by their teacher Mrs Valencia and assistant Ms Watson, the students maintained a professional pace, confidence and energy to ensure a wonderful night was achieved. Well done and we look forward to the Year 2 students’ family evening in the last week of term.

Semester 2 Eve – Wellbeing focus

Just prior to commencing Semester two each year we run a series of wellbeing and career-based activities for students in Years 7, 8 9 & 11 which included:

Year 7 – Project Rocket (anti-bullying messaging and strategies)

Year 8 – Project Rocket & Sexting (key educational material and strategies for students)

Year 9 – Try a VET day – a great opportunity for students to get a taste of possible career pathways & Elephant Education – Respectful relationships.

Year 11 – Fit 2 Drive and Safe Partying & Black Dog Institute – Mental stamina.

Each year we support the Year eleven students in relation to the facts around safe driving and partying and providing them with strategies to safely navigate these two areas of their lives now and in the future. We also included a presentation from the Black Dog Institute on developing mental stamina.

Dreamtime Football Match

Whilst we highlighted this event just recently, I thought it fitting that we close this edition of the newsletter for term two, acknowledging the power of reconciliation and how easy it really is for us to be major players in this journey through our actions, words, and prayer. The spirit of the game shone a light on the spirit and power of reconciliation.

Kolbe & Assisi Reward Day

Assisi (CLN) and Kolbe (CLN) finally go to enjoy their Rosemary Graham Shield prize for winning in 2022 and 2023 respectively.

It was off to bowling for a quick session followed by a pizza lunch.

Fun was had by all, thanks to House Leaders, Mr Patawaran and Ms McSweeney and their Learning Advisors.

I wish you all a safe and productive week.
