Gardening Club

Gardening club began this term by making succulent pot plants for Mother’s Day. We had been working on this project during Term 1 in preparation. The students worked hard planting, watering and caring for the plants, the stall was successful and raised over $200.

Fun times have been enjoyed by proudly picking our first pumpkin, making fairy gardens, planting vegetable seedlings, painting, creating artwork, making cement moulds, propagating, and so much more.

Our focus in Term 2 has been on our Sensory Garden Project. We started this by working as a team and together developed a sensory art and education wall inside the garden room. The walls’ primary focus was around the Victorian rivers that our house colours are named after.  The art works’ theme revolves around Australian native plants and animals that habitat our local rivers. It is designed to be interactive and educational.

The second part of the project has been aimed at creating our Interactive Sensory Garden. The garden will eventually become an outdoor space that will focus on being tactile and an immersive experience for all. It will focus on the 5 different senses of taste, touch, smell, sound and sight.  Twice a week the group meet at lunch and are eager to continue the task of pulling and digging out weeds and shrubs whilst raking and flattening the prepared area.

The gardening program has been able to do all these wonderful things through the dedication of the team and through the support of local businesses and community donations. The gardening club would like to thank Haymes Epping/Preston for their support this semester.  On top of the many other jobs being done by our green team, the students have shown an amazing amount of teamwork and comradery. The work has been successful because of the dedication and commitment from all the Gardening club.
