Principal Reflection

As we come to the close of Term 2 it provides an opportunity to reflect on the busy term that is coming to an end. It has been fantastic to see our students fully involved in their learning as well as extracurricular activities.

There have been many highlights to the term, including the Year 7 and Year 8 ANZAC day assemblies that were held in Week 2. The student voice team did an outstanding job presenting and speaking at the assemblies where they shared the importance of ANZAC day and its historical significance with their Year levels. They also baked over 100 ANZAC cookies which were sold as a fundraiser for Epping RSL.

There have been a number of interschool sports events and a big congratulations to all the students who participated in the Interschool Cross Country, Athletics, Badminton and Soccer competitions this term.

Year 7 students had a water watch incursion followed by an excursion to a local creek. This was a hands-on river education program that supports community members, schools and businesses to be actively involved in monitoring and protecting the health of our rivers and creeks.

Week 5 of Term 2 was Careers week and our Pathways leader, Isabella Azzopardi, organised and ran a wide range of exciting activities each day. The Career Dress Up Day which was great fun and students brought their future Careers to life with creativity and enthusiasm. The emergency services lunchtime visit was well attended by the students who got to sit inside the Police car, Fire truck and Ambulance that kindly came to the College to show their vehicles.

There has been positive news this term about the stage 2 funding for a new technology building and additional learning neighbourhood which will be planned and built to expand the capacity and facilities of the College as it continues to grow.

The green flag shop has opened this term to reward students who have been receiving and collecting green flags as recognition of their positive behaviour. This is part of our School Wide Positive Behaviour supports program that rewards students and recognises positive behaviour, this term our students have amassed over 2600 green flags. A fantastic effort, keep up the good work!

Melissa Lozanovski will return from her leave at the start of Term 3 and I would like to thank all of the staff, students and parents who have welcomed me to Wollert Secondary College, it has been a pleasure to be in the principal role this term and I wish the staff and students all the best for Semester Two. I wish everyone a safe and restful winter break.
