Dear Parents,

REPORTS AND PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Reports will be released on Compass next Wednesday 26th June at 4pm. There have been some changes to focus areas within English and Mathematics in particular, as we implement new syllabus documents across K-6.  The following documents help to explain some of the new elements and how the grading system work. Please take some time to read carefully.

Some classes have already started parent teacher interviews and the rest will be at the end of Week 9 and into Week 10. Bookings are now open through Compass. Please see previous correspondence regarding booking process. It is linked below.

Below are some important tips for parent teacher interviews. Bookings are now open through Compass.

Why it’s important to go to parent-teacher interviews

Parent-teacher interviews give you a great opportunity to:

  • Learn more about your child’s academic, emotional and social development
  • Meet and get to know your child’s teachers
  • Help your child’s teacher understand more about your child
  • Make plans with the teacher about how you can both support your child
  • Build a relationship with your child’s school

What to talk about at parent-teacher interviews

To get most out of parent teacher interviews, it helps to be well prepared.  One of the first things you can do for this kind of interview is read your child’s report carefully and note down anything you want to ask about.

If you’re not sure what to talk about, here are some questions to get your started:

  • What are my child’s interests and strengths?
  • What does my child struggle with?
  • What can I do at home to help my child with school work?
  • What can you tell me about my child’s behaviour in class?
  • How is my child getting along with other students?

Before the interview

During the interview

After the interview

  • Become familiar with the headings and definitions used in the report
  • When the report comes home, write down what you are most impressed with and what you have questions about.
  • Talk to your child about the report. Look for the positive aspects as opportunities to praise them.
  • Ask them to talk to you about the report - is this a fair assessment of their learning, do they have any comments?
  • Let the teacher begin the interview by talking about the strengths/ areas for development that your child has.
  • Ask the questions you have written down prior to the interviews (if they have not already been answered)
  • Discuss your child’s goals for the second half of the year and the strategies that will be used to achieve them
  • When you get home, discuss the goals that have been set for your child.
  • Discuss how they can achieve these goals and how you can help them to do this.
  • During the second half of the year, check in with your child and teacher to see how they are going. Maybe use a diary or journal to help reflect on how they are going.
  • Check in with the class teacher at regular intervals if you have any concerns.

Have a great week,
