Where: Bill & Marjorie Oats Drama Theatre, Senior School Campus

Year 9 & Year 10 PE Aquatics program:

First 6 weeks of Term 3

All students in Years 9 will participate in an Aquatics program. It is anticipated that all students will participate in this program as this is part of the Australian Curriculum and an element of our Year 9 Physical Education Curriculum.  Students will access Friends Health & Fitness one lesson each week to use the swimming pool and facilities. The focus of these programs is to develop students’ swimming, survival and water rescue skills so they gain the confidence and fitness to be able to enjoy activities in aquatic environments in the future.

In Year 10, students self-select to complete competencies towards attaining the Life-Saving Bronze Medallion Award run by certified staff and supported by Royal Life Saving Tasmania.

In preparation for these Term 3 programs, we encourage all students to use the next few weeks to organise the gear that is needed for their aquatics session so they are ready to swim in Week 1 of Term 3. This includes:  swimmers, goggles, swim cap and towel.

Kochi Kokusai Junior and Senior High School Visit to Friends

From July 30 until August 6, a small group of students and their teacher from Kochi Kokusai Junior and Senior High School will be visiting The Friends’ School.  The relationship that exists between The Friends’ School, Hobart, and our two sister schools in Japan is based on more than 25 years of successful exchange experiences. The students will be participating in classes throughout the school and are looking forward to experiencing both school and home life in Tasmania.  It is a wonderful opportunity for both language and cultural exchange.  We are currently seeking host families for this visit so if you are interested, please contact either Dana Hutchinson or Christine Wittlinger for further details.

Presentation by Susan McLean | Respect and Responsibility

Tuesday 2 July

Year 9 - 12 students will hear from Susan McLean on Tuesday 2 July. Susan's student sessions are delivered with clarity and humour and will challenge all students to stop and think about what they do online and what the consequences might be for them not only today, but for the rest of their lives. After a few minutes, Susan has even the most challenging audience listening intently as she recounts her extensive experience in this space, from her first report of cyberbullying in 1994 to her training with the FBI, her visits to Facebook & Instagram’s HQ & her work with elite sports clubs and other organisations.

The theme of this 90 minute session is Respect and Responsibility and will touch on digital reputation, cyber bullying, online ‘friends’, sexts and staying safe online. A small timetable change will be needed to facilitate the session. Students will be emailed the details.

Senior School Dance Showcase

The Senior School Dance Showcase will take place at The Farrall Centre on Friday June 28. There will be a Senior School and Middle School show during the day, and an evening performance for family and friends at 5.30pm.

There is no cost to attend, and this family-friendly event is open to all in our community. Most of the work on display is the student’s choreography and performances refined from in-class activities. We hope to see lots of people there to celebrate an amazing semester of work.
