Winter Book Club Facebook Group for Parents - Join us!

Last year we ran a Book Club for members of the school community.

This year we again invite parents, staff or interested community members to join in, in reading Jonathan Haidt’s “The Anxious Generation”. Each week, we will read one chapter on the book.

We will post some reflections both in the newsletter and within this Facebook group where I will invite group members to share their takeaways.

We will end with an in-person Book Party hosted in the school’s café once we complete the book.

Student Attendance Requirements

The College is required to record all attendance and absences for students on a daily basis and will request the reason that your child is away.

A child is excused from attendance at school if they are sick and that sickness or incapacity prevents them from attending. If they have failed to attend because of sickness or incapacity for a total of 5 school days (not necessarily consecutive) in any school year, we will request from parents/carers a doctor’s certificate in relation to any further days of absence over this initial 5 days of absence.

To help fulfil this requirement it may be a good idea to obtain a medical certificate whenever possible. Medical certificates can be emailed to attendance@scc.tas.edu.au or delivered to the school office.

However, if your child has a contagious disease or illness or infestation, the days that are included in the required exclusion period are not included in the count of absences over the initial 5 days and will become “authorised absences”. For example, if your child has gastro, the exclusion period is 48 hours, therefore, the two days following the bout of gastro, will not count in the 5 days.

If your child is having the day off for their birthday, for example, this is considered an “unjustified absence” as the reason and this will be recorded in their attendance records as that.

End of Day Arrangements (Repeat)

Where possible, parents are encouraged to discuss end of day arrangements with their children before school to minimise end of day calls to the office and interruptions to classes. Thank you.

The Big Winter Chill- THIS FRIDAY!

This Friday 5 July, students will participate in a variety of exciting events, including Nerf gun wars (please bring your own Nerf guns and bullets, some provided), STEM challenges, board games, and outdoor games in the bush. We'll also enjoy a BBQ, a cozy fire, damper, and marshmallows – a perfect way to warm up in the winter!

Students will rotate through the activities throughout the day with their year groups and will enjoy a BBQ lunch together. Students are required to wear their PE uniform unless they bring a gold coin donation, in which case they may wear warm, appropriate free dress. Funds raised will go to support Motor Neuron Disease.

This is an exciting opportunity for students to interact with teachers and peers in a totally different context and to enjoy school in a new way.

Year 6, 7, and 8 will be involved in all activities throughout the entire day.

Year 9 will participate in prearranged Quest activities and will join us for lunch followed by activities.

Year 10 will have time in the morning to work on their Passion Project before joining in the festivities.

Year 11 and 12 will follow their regular class schedule but will join us for the BBQ and treats during lunchtime.
