District Cross Country Team

The Gap SHS Cross Country team are pleased to share our amazing results from the District cross country race held a Pine Rivers Park on Tuesday afternoon. We took a strong group of runners as our overall team and placed second overall as a school behind Ferny Grove SHS.

We had the below athletes on the podium and claim a place to compete at the Regional trial to make the Metropolitan North team.

Mountain Biking

The mountain biking team earned their first overall win in the Rocky Trails Academy mountain biking competition at Mount Cotton last Friday, including 4 podium finishes! Every team member contributed to this well-earned win and had a lot of fun on the way. It is a great day to see students get in the zone doing something they love and helping each other out on the trails. Special congrats to Lauren G, Jasper S, Luca A and Oliver J for their wins, and thank-you to all the students for representing their school so well.

Vicki Wilson Championship and boys open.

We had our Vicki WIlson Netball Competition on Tuesday with a great day had by our 36 attendees across the 4 teams. Shout out to the Senior Girls Championship team finished 5th overall out of 19 teams which is the best result so far for the top divisional team.

Year 9 Gala Day

Our Year 9 Gala Day is being held on the 20th May at the South Pine Sporting Complex .  This day provides an opportunity for all students in Year 9 to participate in competitive sport.  We have had a large uptake of participation which is great to see.

Listed below are the sports that are on offer to students:

− Mixed Beach Volleyball – held at Shockwave – Ferny Grove

− Basketball

− Netball

− Boys and Girls 7 a side Soccer

− Mixed Touch

Students will be travelling to and from this event by bus. Depart at 8.40am and return by 2.30pm.

Students have signed up for this event and permission will be available via Q-Parents for the students who nominated.

District Sports Nominations

The North West District Trial for - boys and girls Tennis, 10-12 years, is being held on Monday 26th May at Pure Tennis, Samford Road, Ferny Hills. 

Girls: 8:30 am - 2:30 pm, Boys: 9:00 am – 2:30 pm.

Details have also been placed on the DayMap notices for this.

If students are interested in attending this trial, they are welcome to come to the HPE staff room (at the sports hall) for further details.

North West Primary & Secondary Districts Trials   1. Discuss with HPE staff suitability to trial at the sports hall staffroom.  2. Nominate your intention to trial and fill out the nomination form at the sports hall.  3. Collect information pack for the trial. This will include a QR code to register required information

Football season has arrived with a bang in 2025! 

Our Senior Boys team is currently competing in the Uhlsport Cup against local schools in the group stages. They secured a big win over St James last week, scoring 6 goals to nil. Their next match is against Kelvin Grove SHS and promises to be an exciting one to watch. Kick-off is scheduled for Thursday, 29 May at 2:45 pm here at The Gap. Spectators and supporters are very welcome.

Our U15 teams are also preparing for the Bill Turner Gala Day on Wednesday, 21 May at Aspley SHS. We are sending both a girls’ team and a boys’ team to compete, playing multiple matches throughout the day with the goal of winning the group stage.

We are very proud of the students who have been trialling and training, each has demonstrated excellent sportsmanship and a strong commitment to our school values on the pitch. A big thank you to Mr Hoey, Ms Trask, and Mr Moran for your efforts in getting our teams back into these tournaments.

Uhlsport Cup

On Thursday last week we had our first round of Uhlsport Cup against St. James College. Our open team stayed true to the game plan and came away with an impresive win 6-0. A perfect start to the competion. We play Kelvin Grove State College on 29/05 at 2.45am and are working toward another high quality game. Well done to our Open Boys team.
