🛠️ Year 7 Makers in Action: Money Boxes with a Modern Twist! 💰🎨

In term 1, our talented Year 7 students were busy in the Materials classroom, diving into a dynamic hands-on project: designing and creating their very own timber money boxes! But these aren’t just any ordinary boxes — they’re creative masterpieces combining traditional skills with modern technology.

🔨 Blending Woodwork & Metalwork - Students have been learning the fundamentals of construction using a variety of tools and techniques from both woodwork and metalwork. From carefully cutting and assembling timber panels to applying traditional jointing methods, our budding designers are developing strong foundational skills in making and craftsmanship.

💡 Design Meets Tech - Adding their own unique flair, students explored the world of digital design by:

  • 🖨️ 3D printing custom creatures to perch on their boxes

  • 🔥 Laser cutting striking backdrops to personalize their themes

  • 🖍️ Using the Cricut machine to design and cut detailed vinyl stickers for their final touches

Each money box tells a different story, reflecting the student’s personality, interests, and imagination — whether it’s a box guarded by a fire-breathing dragon, decorated with vibrant patterns, or inspired by nature.

💬 “I loved making something with wood and metal and then using the laser cutter to make it look really cool,” said one excited student.

We’re incredibly proud of how our Year 7s have embraced both traditional and cutting-edge making skills. They’ve shown creativity, perseverance, and a growing confidence in the workshop. A huge congratulations to all of them!

🎉 Stay tuned for our upcoming showcase, where families will be invited to view the finished money boxes on display!
