VIETNAM VETERAN'S MUSEUM

YEAR 10 HISTORY
On Monday the 28th of April, the Year 10 History class visited the Vietnam Veteran's Museum in Newhaven to learn about Australia's involvement in the Vietnam War, particularly in the Battle of Long Tan. Peter, our guide, explained conscription and it's effects on young people. Students also learned how Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young men enlisted when they were not legally required to and that it is far more than the 500 who officially served, because they lied about their heritage so that they could fight for Country.
The highlight was several students supplying relatives' names and receiving certificates for their grandparents' or great uncles' service in Vietnam War, then being informed of which units they each served in.
Chad and Phoenix thanked Peter on behalf of the class and teachers, Mr Churchill and Ms Kennedy for his knowledge and kindness shared with our group.
